Hi all.
Does anyone have any recommendations for hiring an outside publicist? Specifically, I'm looking to boost sales of a mystery that will be published by an e-publisher that doesn't do their own promoting. I know I probably won't make enough in royalties to cover the cost of the publicity, but what the hell.
Thanks.
V.

There are lots of publicists around, and it's hard for AW to produce a list of them because they change their jobs so often, moving from freelance to working for a specific publisher and back again. Also, different publicists specialise in different things and get better results for different genres: a list would have to specify their specialities to be of any use at all, and that makes it a huge amount of work.

If your book is going to be published by a non-promoting publisher in digital format only you'd probably be better off self-publishing. That way you'd be able to tailor everything to the markets you prefer. But I assume it's too late for this option now.

I'm sorry I can't suggest a publicist for you. The better ones I know of only work for trade-published authors, and so have bookshop presence to work with, which makes a huge difference.

Perhaps someone else will come along and suggest a few names. But meanwhile, read the stickies here about how to market your own work effectively. Good luck.
