Hey Folks,

Forgive me if this is on here somewhere...but...I have a Fiction novel and I have an expert on themes in my novel who has agreed to write a Q&A style Foreword answering relationship/sexuality questions that come up in the novel. Should I be writing up a contract which would ensure I officially have rights to include her advice in my manuscript? We have email interactions where we are both clear on what the Q&A is for ...is that enough? I have tried Googling this but...dunno.

Thanks for direction!

You need to consult with your publisher, and if you're self publishing, with an IP attorney.

One option is for you to specify copyright on the novel, and her to specify copyright on the Foreward. Go to a bookstore or library, and you'll see that's pretty common if you look at the copyright pages of books.
