Lawrence might be a teenage ghost and something of a nuisance, but he's seventeen-year-old Blake's best friend. He has been since Blake's grandmother--and Lawrence's old girlfriend--died three years ago, and Blake did his first working to try to bring her back. What he brought back instead was a demon, and only Lawrence's intervention saved him from being consumed by it. Since then they've been inseparable. They have to be, seeing as Lawrence's soul is tethered to Blake. That little inheritance wasn't exactly in the will.
But as close as the boys are, Lawrence really craves love. It's what kept his soul safe all these decades, when he should have become a scary hollowed-out ghost long ago. Blake loves him, he knows that, but it's hard to believe all the time. Lawrence is practically exploding in emotion, but Blake's not exactly the gushing kind. If only he was more like his cousin, Joy, who lives just as vibrantly as Lawrence would like to. In the past year, he's noticed Joy becoming more and more like Blake's grandmother, and the more he notices, the more he longs for a different kind of love than the one Blake's managed to show him.
When the demon returns and takes members of Blake's family, the boys race to figure out a way to vanquish it back to where it came from and save Blake's family. Especially since Joy's the next on the demon's list.
