"October extinguished itself in a rush of howling winds and driving rains and November arrived,
cold as frozen iron, with hard frosts every morning and icy drafts that bit at exposed hands and faces."

- J.K. Rowling, HARRY POTTER AND THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX

It's NaNo month, but you don't have to participate to post your November goals - writing and otherwise - in this thread. Welcome back to all our regulars, and to any newcomers - welcome in!

As usual, I'll get us started. I'm taking it easy on myself since I'm doing NaNo this year for the first time in a while, to get me jump-started on the fifth and final book of my fantasy series. I'm excited about that, but I'm even more excited to be heading home: I've been in NYC since late January, working on a Broadway show, but the show is closing and that mean's I'll be settled in at my own desk in my own house this time next week!

[ ] 1. NANO! Write 50k words on Book 5 of The Gemeta Stone - 0 of 50,000
[ ] 2. Read five books - 0 of 5
[ ] 3. Go for two nature walks - 0 of 2
[ ] 4. Complete final pre-release promo push for Book 2 before Nov. 7th release
[ ] 5. Nail down release date for Book 3 and start creating graphics
[ ] 6. Write two more guest blogs for Book 2 virtual book tour - 0 of 2

I'll probably have others to add later on, but I think that's plenty for now.

And what about you? What are your November plans?

Whoop whoop whoop whoop!! It's NaNo time!

You've got a ton on your plate this month, Donna! But I guess that's what happens when you have a release around the same time. :) Hopefully it goes smoothly.

I've cleaned my plate of beta reads for the moment, so my only goal:
__ Win NaNo

Should I have more? Probably. But November and December are always insane for me (as in, scheduled plans every weekend), so I know better than to overload myself now. NaNo's enough.

Hey guys! Wow, has it been a year already?

Last year was stressful but I manged to get through it so I'm gearing up for year two, despite having quite a big dry spell writing-wise over the past year. BUT I've got the story, the outline, character sketches, blah blah blah, all ready to go. My only potential pitfall is the week-long vacation I'm taking with my kids over the Thanksgiving break. It's going to mean some LATE nights while traveling, never a good combo for me. Any tips on how to get through it, let me know!

My goals for November:

1) reach the daily word count every day
2) reach 50K

I'm with Maggs, no sense in overloading. November and December are a madhouse around here. This will keep me busting my butt, for sure.

I'm excited, guys! Woo-hoo! :TheWave:

Still can't believe that NaNo is already here. It snuck up on me this year and I'm going to be flying by the seat of my pants.

My writing goals for November:

1. Finish my query letter for my MG novel and start subbing.
2. Reach my word count everyday
3. Reach 50k

Goals for November:

* Meet daily word-count for NaNo.
* Have fun writing.
* Keep looking for a job.
* If I get depressed, take a break and realize it's not the end of the world.

My life is like a puzzle with missing pieces. Instead of cramming in the ones that don't fit, I need to stop trying so hard to see the big picture and just take it for what it is: abstract art. lol. Maybe it doesn't have to make sense. All I know is that I still want to write. Onward, to 50k!

Goals For November:

1. NOT weasel out of writing the story I said I was gonna work on (Which has changed like nine times in October).
2. Try to hit the daily word count, but make up the slack on weekends if I have to.
3. Reach 50000 words.
4. Not give up.
5. Not freak out.
6. Buy myself Fallout 4 on Black Friday. :)

Haaaaiiiii all! Been wanting to join this series of threads for a long time but I either notice half the month has already gone by, or, well, there's too much life to juggle with that I know I won't be able to complete much, and so would rather not see an incomplete to-do list... But now I'm finally here! And first one to not be doing NaNo, it seems :D

My goals (whoever came up with this format to cross out is awesome):
[ ] Finish reading And I Darken
[ ] Finish reading Flame in the Mist
[ ] Complete new beta reading ASAP!
[ ] Finish reading the two memoirs I found for research for my recently completed MS (I know, strange to do research after, not before, but as a pantser, I had to get something out to work with first)

Good luck to everyone else!! :e2cheer:

NaNo! That's my main goal. I would also like to read some books and get some more transcribing done because ohgoditsalmosttheendoftheyear. Daily goals will mostly be NaNo but if I finish early (it might happen) I might do some editing instead. Or finish my WIP I had hoped to finish last month and didn't.

No hard goals. I mean, besides NaNo, but my drafting is always messy and bad so I don't need to be thinking much for that. It's editing that's hard work for me. So hopefully the whole still sick thing won't have too big an impact.

1. Do NaNo.
2. Read three books.
3. Transcribe some.
4. 500 words or 2 pages edited per day.

Very excited for NaNoWriMo! I've avoided this for years, but I'm ready with the plans I have placed.

My Goals
[ ] Complete NaNoWriMo. 50K or more!
[ ] Keep up with daily word count.
[ ] Finish query letter and start subbing last project. (So excited for this)
[ ] Read at least three books. I dunno if that is a small amount or not, but I haven't had enough time to read.
[ ] Crit twice a week in SYW. Must take every chance to learn.

Best of luck, everyone!

Goals
[ ] 2,500 words every single day
[ ] Drink copious amounts of beer
[ ] Don't die

Hang in there everyone! Let's just have fun.

Don't really have any goals other than the fact that this will be my first time participating.

I missed out last year because I was sitting in on a creative writing course, and wanted to focus on that. This year, I'm currently in limbo (looking for work) so I figured I might as well FINALLY site down, AND WRITE this idea I've been sitting on since Dec of 2015.

NaNo month! I'm moving two of my constant goals into the month goal in the hopes of finishing them off, and setting a few of the unfinished ones from last month aside until after November :D

[ ] Finish NaNo project.
[ ] Get to bed on time more than 80% of the month:
[ ] Nov. 1 - 4
[ ] Nov. 5 - 11
[ ] Nov. 12 - 18
[ ] Nov. 19 - 25
[ ] Nov. 26 - 30
[ ] Finish cleaning office:
[ ] Sort last stack of items
[ ] File stack of papers
[ ] Find permanent places for anything I'm keeping
[ ] Give away the "give away" pile
[ ] Do edits on the E shorty story, whenever they come in.

Constant Goals:

[43] Write 1K words a day (for 52 weeks).

I have one goal this month: 10,000 words.

I know that Nano is meant to be 50K, but I'm rebelling and editing so I'm trying to be realistic.

Hello, I'm participating this year!

I don't have a big list. My only goal is to "finish" the story - it should be more than 50k.
I've hit more than 4k every day so far, so I guess it's become an unofficial goal to do 4k a day this month.

I've attempted this in the past but I don't think I had it planned well enough. My story has changed a lot over the last couple years.
It's going well now that I've finally gotten a start on it. Will pass 17k words tonight. I'm very excited about it :)

Good luck everyone.

I love seeing everyone's goals! Posting mine because telling other people always holds me accountable. This is actually my first year participating in NaNoWriMo so I'm pretty excited.

[ ] Write 50,000 words
[ ] Write at least 2,000 words every day
[ ] Update website
[ ] Read two books
[ ] Drink more water
[ ] Weight lifting at least three days a week (technically writing related, because I get the best ideas when I'm dying on the leg press. Go figure.)
[ ] Move at least two of our CHDO houses into closing for my non-profits homeownership proram (sounds boring, but I'm super excited because I'm extremely invested in my applicants. lmao.)
[ ] Spend more time telling my cats how perfect they are
[ ] Pack for Jamaica trip
[ ] Acquire several paperbacks to read on said trip

As anticipated, I got very little done this first week of November. My husband is in town to help me move home, we're living in a hotel, my show is closing (final performance today) and everything feels very unsettled. I got a wee bit of NaNo-ing done, and wrote one of the two guest blogs on my list, but even reading has been difficult. On the upside, I've done a great deal of walking around midtown with my husband (although none of that qualifies as a "nature" walk); downside is I've done an equal amount of eating and drinking. I am so ready to get some sense of normalcy back in my life.

Book #2 (FISKUR: Book Two of The Gemeta Stone) releases on Tuesday so I've added a 7th goal to deal with the promo for that. It's great to be published but I often feel I spend more time flogging my books than actually writing, and it wears me out.

[ ] 1. NANO! Write 50k words on Book 5 of The Gemeta Stone - 1,426 of 50,000
[ ] 2. Read five books - 0 of 5
[ ] 3. Go for two nature walks - 0 of 2
[ ] 4. Complete final pre-release promo push for Book 2 before Nov. 7th release
[ ] 5. Nail down release date for Book 3 and start creating graphics
[ ] 6. Write two more guest blogs for Book 2 virtual book tour - 1 of 2
[ ] 7. Flog Book 2 through month of November

ETA: Forgot to mention that I sold one of the two short stories I submitted on a whim last month. It's not a lot of money, but it was still a very pleasant surprise in the midst of a hectic week.

I hope everyone's still sane from NaNo/keeping up with their goals!

Here's my update:
[X] Finish And I Darken DONE!!!
[ ] Finish Flame in the Mist A third way through...
[ ] Complete new beta reading ASAP! Halfway through, I think, so yay!
[ ] Finish the two memoirs I found for research for my recently completed MS Halfway through for one, a quarter way through for the other! Have been finding so much more research material to pore over though, so I guess this gives me a new goal...
[ ] Research, Research, Research!! (unfortunately it's left super vague here since I'm all over the place at it now @_@)

Keep going, everyone! :e2cheer:
