I'm beginning this a tad early since the autumn equinox (in northern hemisphere, vernal in southern) begins 'officially' at 4:02pm on the east coast of the U.S... but that means it starts way sooner in other parts of the world. Today marks the day when the sunlight falls directly upon the equator as it shifts toward winter/spring. You can certainly tell that nightfall is getting earlier and earlier. Traditional celebrations include a fall feast as the harvest begins in some cultures (Thanksgiving) and/or the celebration of lives past (Halloween or Days of the Dead) in others.

If you choose to mark the day, I hope it's blessed.
