To an extent the history of horror as a contemporary literary genre overlapped with the history of heavy metal. After some initial warnings, circa 1968-1973, of the flood to come, horror soared around the mid-1970’s, coasted through the 1980’s, started seriously losing ground to genre cousins like "dark fantasy" in the 1990’s, and here we are now—"real proper horror" that in 1977 or 1987 could have gotten big publisher deals and exposure, in 2017 is the province of "cult" enthusiasts writing for other "cult" enthusiasts*.

That’s just the way the world spirit moves from one place to the next. Good that quality indie publishers and thriving communities have appeared around horror, catering to the "real fans".

There are many worthy fresh names to know in today’s comparatively underground but still very rich horror scene. Let’s make a list of contemporary names in that scene. I’m starting today with Tim Curran, and will add another name once a week until this thread reaches at least 10 names. Please add names as well :D

* In a sense, like with people performing "proper metal like Slayer '86 or Venom'82" for fellow fanatics, for example, knowing full well this can no longer and indeed can never again enter the pop charts.
