After struggling for some time to find the right resolution to my most recent UPN*, I think I hit upon it today. I was hung up on how to resolve the major conflict of the thing, knowing what would happen after, and having already written the ending, but there was a complicated action scene I needed, and just could not figure out how to make it work within the first-person POV narration.
Found it today, I think. It involves severely injuring the narrator character, in a way that alters his subsequent life. I think it does exactly what is needed for a darkly comic tale.
