I'm working on a collection of recollections of my childhood and youth growing up in a remote coastal logging/fishing village in British Columbia , Canada. I have dozens of anecdotes and shorter items I'm pulling together one word at a time. I was on a commercial fishing vessel as a child for example, first worked in a logging camp at 12.

I've been a working journalist since 1990 with thousands of articles published since then. A very good friend, an accomplished writer and published author of non-fiction titles told me that his publisher showed no interest in memoir-type stuff.

"Write it for your grandchildren," he tells me. "Worry about placing it later."
