I've always considered myself a novel writer, but after several nudges of encouragement from the AW fam and classmates, I worked up the courage to send out a few of what I considered my "best" short stories to a few different magazines. The rejections rolled in, as I expected. I got a lot of personal rejections which was very nice since they took the time, but I figured after a few weeks went by it was going to a be a solid "no" on all of them.
And then today I got an email....one of my short stories was accepted by one of the magazines I sent it to!!! I couldn't believe it! I feel like I'm almost an actual writer now, haha!
Made my entire day. I'm quite baffled, but extremely ecstatic.
Sidenote: Am I supposed to respond to the acceptance email and thank them? What do I say? How do I adult? SOS
Update: Here's the link to the story, y'all!
