Ack. Busy. Shall be back later tonight to do a proper thing, so for now ... one match only.

ROUND 3

Newly-converted AFL fan Melissa Etheridge will be in attendance tonight with the Outer Sanctum podcast ladies as Carlton takes on Collingwood at the 'G. In the words of Mr. BF: "Let's see if she's still a fan of the sport after this debacle."

ROUND 4

Let's be honest -- there's only one important thing to note about round 4 ... JOSH KENNEDY IS BACK! WOOT! (Am I biased? Why, not at all. Not at all. But thanks for asking).

In other news, Josh Kennedy is back.

Oh, and in case you missed the news, Josh Kennedy is back. :D

During the week, the Greater Western Sydney Giants quietly announced they've dropped the "GWS" bit of their name. Given the "GWS" moniker was only supposed to be temporary and was quite a mouthful, it seems a sensible move to drop it. OTOH, their preferred name is now "Giants" but in all-caps. I've put that in below, if only to show how damn stupid it looks.

The Tiges take on a Brisbane team who were unlucky to lose last week against Port in Adelaide. It seems wrong they're sitting at the bottom of the ladder, because their form's been pretty solid. Having said that, I fully expect Richmond to crush them tomorrow. (In other news, given Brisbane is a merged team who'll be wearing the old Fitzroy strip this week ... this match is all Lions and Tigers and Bears. Oh my).

In other match-ups, a slumping St Kilda will attempt to beat an injury-ravaged Geelong at a venue where they haven't won this millennium (good luck with that, guys). Collingwood gets yet another plum Friday night match tonight, despite the fact they've sucked for years (good luck against Adelaide in Adelaide, guys).

It'll be interesting to see how Essendon fronts up after the roasting they've copped after their loss to the Bulldogs. And can we just take a moment to thank Conor McKenna for chomping down on his opponent, giving newspapers country-wide the opportunity to finally, legitimately run with the headline: Man Bites Dog.

Um, yes. Don't do that. :)

One thing that comes from living with a Blues supporter -- I know not to believe the hype about them. Every year the commentators get all, "Oh, they have this gun midfield now. It's the Blues' year to be on the rise!" and Mr. BF says, "Don't be fooled. They have 4 good players, no depth, no game plan, and no forward who can consistently kick goals."

And of the two options, Mr. BF is always correct.

Well, he now gets to sing the traditional "My team sucks more than your team" song ... so probably not. :D

Ooh, I just realised it's WCE vs Carlton next week!

I always forget the Front Bar exists. Because channel 7. (We watched 7 the other night for Andrew Denton's new show. It was exactly like his old ABC show ... except for the 1/3 screen banner ads for MKR and the dancing cash cow. So classy).

ROUND 5

First, let's just take another moment to appreciate that the Eagles and the Tigers are currently sitting 2 and 3 on the ladder. *happy sigh* And that Josh Kennedy kicked 5 despite being rusty as a very rusty thing (have I mentioned Josh Kennedy's back?)

Second, how the hell does this round stretch to Wednesday next week?!? I know it's the Anzac Day match, so the mid-week fixture's a given, but wouldn't it make more sense to make that match the first one of round 6 instead of the last of round 5? Bloody AFL. Also, given they now have an "Anzac Eve" match, there's matches every day/night, except for a weird mid-round hiatus on Monday. Ugh. Bloody AFL.

Tonight it's Sydney vs the struggling Adelaide Crows. I'm calling a smashing already. Likewise for tomorrow, when St Kilda takes on GWS (I will not call them GIANTS. I refuse).

I'm hopeful the Mrs BF vs Mr BF West Coast / Carlton showdown will also be a complete trouncing (in my favour, of course), but as much as all logic says we should win comfortably, I'm nervous. The Eagles hate the 'G (though at least we're allowed to train there pre-match this year), and Carlton almost pipped us there late last year (in very wet conditions). My team struggles when we get complacent.

Actually, on current form, Richmond could well also smash Melbourne. And Gold Coast the Lions. Hmm. This round will either be as one-sided as last week, or an upset round (as sometimes happens).

Anzac Day could get a ripping crowd on Wednesday if the weather's any good, with both Collingwood and Essendon going okay. I don't get why commentators were so fast to bash the Bombers after one poor performance in round 3 -- they'd been fine in the first two rounds. Footy commentators: fickle beasts.

St Kilda vs GWS

St Kilda draws with GWS. This season is officially bananas.
