"The Loney" by Andrew Michael Hurley ticks all your boxes. I'm reading his second novel now, "Devil's Day" and I think he's one of the finest literary horror writers out there.

Dan Chaon is another one. His most recent novel, Ill Will, was brilliant. His short story "The Bees" absolutely terrified me, but all the stories in that collection, "Stay Awake" were amazing.

Anything by Stephen Graham Jones too, and I'd second Damien Angelica Walters. I love her short stories and I'm looking forward to her upcoming "The Dead Girls Club."
