I've been lurking for a little while, but now that I signed up, I figured that I should stop in here.

I'm wrapping up my first book right now. The genre might be a little up in the air, but alien invasion/military sci-fi seems to fit best. Anyway, before I got the itch to try out the writing thing, I hadn't written anything substantial since college, and that was too long ago to count now. So I'm sure I will take my lumps, but that's why I'm here.

There are a lot of fine folks on here that I've been reading and learning from, and I look forward to being active around here to receive more of that education and give it back when possible.

I appreciate it. The story itself is pretty much finished. Now, I'm just going back over it to clean up any typos, trying to reword some things, and learning the art of making it into something that other people might want to read.

That's awesome! As I haven't written a novel yet, I can't speak to the most difficult part of the process. But from where I sit, it sounds like the hardest part is over. Getting from A to Z seems like the most daunting task. Do you plan on submitting for publishing somewhere?

It's not really a novel; it's only around 41,000 words. It is the first part of a series, though, so who knows what it would be classified then? I'll probably self publish it unless people tell me it's absolutely amazing. It's my first try at this, so I'm not expecting to set the world on fire. And it's probably too short for a trade publisher anyway.
