Thank you, William! I want to encourage all to participate. The contests are fun and even though I have not fared well, they are a great way to interact with the community. Hope to see a huge turnout!

will previously written work be considered or only new material specific for the competition?

"Poems may be a tribute/ode to your own mother, a poem written from a mother's point of view, or a poem about motherhood in general. "

Suppose mom was less than exemplary. Just suppose.

An ode would be out of place, a tribute wouldn't seem right either. Is this strictly a sunny memory event or can those with dark and bitter mental scrap books enter?

Disclaimer: My mom was exemplary, but I know some folks who were lucky to survive the "mothering" they rec'd. Perhaps some in this forum have less than fond recollections as well. I'm curious on their behalf.

i have no problem with anyone taking a darker route. to what extent it would invite votes, i have no idea.

but there's no rule that it has to be a glowing tribute to either one's mother or motherhood, in general.

Me too!

...and that mother's day being totally different dates in different countries really messes me up. I miss it every time--but on the upside my Mom sometimes gets unexpected gifts ;)

Thanks much, William for a great Mother's Day contest, etc. I entered.

PS Can we vote for our own poems? I probably have to since no one voted for my other poem in your super contest. lol.

Just want to say..... I am completely blown away by the poems posted. To read these words about mothers, these exquisite tributes, well, ... I'm at a loss here, can't really express how deeply emotionally satisfying they are... as difficult it is to remember. Hats off to all the poets who have posted so far! Hot Damn!

I'm not sure that, in good conscience, I can even vote for myself since there are already two posted that I like better than my own! Great work, poets!

I can't vote for myself, in good conscience, because I don't think I can find my arse with both hands when it comes to poetry. Besides, it's a strange thing to do, vote for oneself, that is.
