Here's our usual thread for the month, open to both NaNo participants and those who just want a place to state their goals, track their progress and commiserate/cheer with others!

I've had an awful last couple of months insofar as writing has gone, but I'm hoping November will be easier. The first two weeks will be a little wacko as I finish up the last two weeks of my current show's run and workshop a new play at the same time, but after the 15th I finally have some down time - at least until Christmas. This is the first holiday season in years that I haven't booked a show, and the very idea that I can celebrate without having to worry about a rehearsal/performance schedule make me want to dance all around the room.

Here are my goals for the month. If they look familiar, it's because they're the same ones I had in October - which says a lot about my October.

1) Write up to the big climax of current WIP (Book #3 in my fantasy series)
2) Revise manuscript of Book #2 in series
3) Read 2 books
4) Write 1 blog post

1) Participate in NaNo for the first time in half a decade

2) Use NaNo as a springboard for learning more about my own creative process, experimenting with: timing, location, and duration of writing sessions; planning vs. pantsing; time management

Only goal for November is to win NaNo for the first time. I think I can do it as I feel quite prepared going into it (although I am sure I will probably feel different come tomorrow), I just need to find a balance between writing, university and social life...so probably easier said than done, ha!

Good luck to everyone for November, whether you're NaNo-ing or not ;)

Oooh, a peer pre... uh... support thread!

1: Write 50,000 words in November
2: Try and stick to the NaNo 'suggested schedule' of 1,667 word per day. In other words, work on my time management and push-through skills.

I just signed up for NaNo for the first time ever. I'm not entirely sure what this means. What have I done?;)

My goal is to write as much of my WIP as possible, but I'm also supposed to read about 8 books if I want to meet my yearly reading goal so things could get ugly, fast!

That's no longer considered rebelling.

I want to get 50k done this month though I'm hoping for 60.
Thankfully, I have a plethora of projects to work on:

- a science fiction short story
- two urban fantasy short stories
- a sword and sorcery short story
- an urban fantasy novel
- a half finished space opera novel

I think I might be doing WriMos until march...

My aims are to finish NaNo with more words than I started and my sanity intact. If I can manage to win it that would be great but I don't really expect to.

I'm planning to do this by breaking it down into sessions with a 1.5k target on weekdays (except Thurs, I'm busy then) and aiming for a double session of 3k on weekends. I have an outline and despite saying I expect to fail I'm actually feeling moderately optimistic at this point. Today I kicked off with a successful double session and got to 3300 words before I called it a day.

I would like to get back into writing something or anything. I haven't written in months and hope signing up to this will give me the kick in the pants I need.I would like to write at least 20,000 words by the end of the month.

Goals for the month:

  • Finish Subject Entity
  • Start Daring
  • Get my Query letter ready to go
  • Write 85k

I Normally finish 50k or so a month so I'm setting my own goal this NaNoWriMo, never done it before but it should be fun to try.

YES! I'm doing NaNo a little differently this year: Taking a manuscript I originally wrote a couple NaNo's ago, which has been through the Beta wringer, done some world-building and character development, let it sit for a while, and NOW I'm putting the finishing touches on it.

Here's the process: I have my old document with notes, another document with my Rules of Magic/Geography/Character Backgrounds/Etc., and a third document called "Draft 3" in which I'm cutting/pasting things into the final format. That's what I'm basing my word count on--that final draft document. My goal is to have it polished by the end of the month so I can submit it to Angry Robot for their Open Door thing. Which means I'll also be working on a 2-3 page synopsis. That's the hard part, but it won't take as long.

So far, I have 5k in the final document. The original manuscript is at 79k, but that will change once I comb through it.

I am finishing the last chunk of a trilogy, in addition I am going back through all three books and writing the continuity bridges so the story arc is coherent and readable.

Goals for the month:
1) Finish the last 10k of the ms I've been dragging my feet in for the past year or so (YA fantasy)
2) Write a 30-40k ms for a MG idea I have
3) Write a 60-70k ms for a YA contemporary romance I have

This is my highest word count goal for NaNo, ever, but I'm on track so far. Here's hoping I can continue :)

New goal time :)
  • Finish a complete draft of my NaNo project
  • Write and update word count every day (I want that badge, dang it!)
  • Continue to work on getting writing in earlier in the day
  • Work on shifting wake-up & go-to-sleep times

That last one is a constant goal for me. One of these days, I will succeed!

here, but too far from the ocean
First timer for Nanowrimo!

Goals are to finish 50,000 words at least, and preferably the entire novel (but perhaps skipping some scenes I want to come back to later, I will see).

I tend towards more planning, which is great for my style but can be overdone, so I am hoping to allow myself /remove my inner editor when needed. So when I get to a scene I want to waste too much time researching or organizing, I will write a sentence or two of what will go there and leave a placeholder to finish later. That is the plan anyway, suggested in some thread here somewhere :)
