So, I've got some updates in my agent search.
I had mega agent who requested the full for my last MS back in July. I was stunned because this agent doesn't request anything. I remember laughing my head off when I saw her request because none of this industry makes any damn sense. She messaged me in August to let me know she was still reading and to inform her if I had any offers. I was stunned and was trying not to get my hopes up. In October, she got back to me and asked for an R&R. She loved the voice, the characters, the setting, and world-building, but had issues with the ending. She basically said she didn't get back to me earlier because she went back and forth on the project. She seemed very interested in the project, that she'd "really connected with it" and told me she'd be "more than delighted" to read a revision.
Her notes were fantastic. She sent me over three pages worth, filled with compliments, and a few notable points of concern. Best part of the R&R was I agreed with most of what she said. When I first read her notes, my hands started shaking because I was so happy.
Anyway, I read over my MS twice in a weekend, started taking notes based on her revision feedback and my own ideas, and then I became utterly consumed with the revision process. The revision took about two months to complete, and I had my readers go over it too. I recently sent the revision back to the agent and I'm so proud of it. One thing that really excites me is that the agent has been very communicative during the R&R. Anytime I updated her, or messaged her, she'd reply by the next morning. When I sent her the revision, she replied about being excited to dive in, and that she'd be in touch as soon as possible.
That was two weeks ago.
I really hope this is the one. December 26th is the 8th year anniversary of the first every query I sent. I got a rejection 43 minutes later, and I remember sitting in the car, feeling the sting, and thinking, "The first is out of the way. How long is this going to take?" Well...6 projects and 500 rejections later, I'm on pins and needles, waiting to hear back.
Additionally, I also have new agent whom I'm really excited about. She read my last MS and asked to see samples of my other books. I had sent her a synopsis for my newest project and this week, she requested the full. She also wants to see the revision for my last book, but the mega agent has the exclusive until January.
This moment is so surreal, because for the first 5-6 years of querying, I got only a handful of requests. And I'd actually nearly shelved this project before I decided to sent out a new batch of queries. That batch resulted in fulls from these two agents (and form rejects from all the others). Guess it just goes to show that you can never predict this industry.
Wish me luck!
