It's almost the end of May, which means it's time to think about your writing (and other) goals for June!

I feel like I've been repeating my goals for the last couple months, so I'm going to change things up a little:

Finish first draft of Book #3 - 154,207 of 171,000 (or completion - whichever comes first)
Revise manuscript of Book #2 in series - 0 of 1
Write a blog post - 0 of 1
Read four books - 0 of 4
Revise Sekrit Solstice short story - 0 of 1
Submit Sekrit Solstice short story somewhere - 0 of 1
Explore Montgomery, AL and environs
Get more active. I'm doing nearly nothing now so that won't be hard. :e2paperba I can walk to the theatre and there's a pool where I'm staying, so no excuses!

I know the first of the month will be slow since I'll be heading down to Alabama to start work on my next show, but once I'm settled in and rehearsals are under way I expect to have a lot of long lonely nights that'll be conducive to writing. I hope.

ETA: Updated word count and additional goals.

In the abstract, this month I want to:

1)- keep up a high word count - I'll go for 1000 words of new fiction a day - and revise down if I need to be more realistic,

2) - and this is a big one - add to my income, whether that's getting a new job, getting more hours, or (hopefully) finding some writing/powerpoint freelance that will start making me some ducats by the end of the month.

ETA: for the freelance - I want to
create a least one powerpoint presentation
set up a LinkedIn for the freelance work
set up an on-line archive for my portfolio
If possible:
attend the resume workshop and/or the LinkedIn workshop at the state-run jobhunting help place.
get help turning my blog into something that functions more like a web-page

(I *do* have other concrete goals - for WIPS in particular, but I'm afraid of jinxing it if I express them to any but myself...)

This month's goals:

1. Finish novel (38,000/60,000)
2. Write another superhero short
3. Edit and submit Superior
4. Submit Alien Goat Story
5. Two blog posts
6. Back up everything onto Google Drive

It's a lot to say, but we'll see how much actually happens considering what all is going on this month (convention and vacation at the end of it). But that's my goal.

This is going to be a hard month for me to get any work done, since I am hosting family the first week of June. Still, I want to get some good stuff in. I think I have about five chapters left to complete the first half of my novel (the first draft of it, anyway) so I'm going to make writing those five chapters my one and only goal for June.

I'm not sure what to make my goals, or if I'm even going to get any writing done. I'm expecting to start working probably like 80 hours a week for the next year or so. I don't know how it's going to affect things, if I won't time to write, or if I'll be too tired to write if I carved out some time, or if it's going to make me more productive since time will be so valuable.

I'm trying to make this as undisruptive as possible. So I guess I'll just put my goal as writing 1k a day for now.

I've convinced a few friends to do a June Mini NaNo. We're all going for 1,000 words a day.
Along with that, I've got a few short stories that need finishing/polishing.
And as always, keep submitting. Gotta keep them rejections rolling in.

2. Write outline for July Camp Nano novel.

I'm in the same boat--I just finished my major rewrite, so I've printed and I'm getting ready to redline all over it!

So my official goals:
1. Redline the next book in my series.
2. Get it published this month.
3. Outline for my July Camp novel.
4. Finish reading all the books I've started (got about half done in May).
5. Review each book as I finish.

1. Edit six chapters UF.
2. Edit two stories.
3. Read six books.
4. 500 words or 2 pages min/day

I'm pretty boring with my goals, but that's okay. I'm going to hit that reading one this time.

Probably the library.
Wait, Camp is in July??

*clearly has forgotten*

This is going to take a lot of strategic planning then...

First, goals for June:

*Kill my finals before they kill me
*Write 5k of non-school stuff
*Outline something for Camp
*Complete 5 DayZero goals
*Read 5 books
*Finish my grad school spreadsheet
*Do something fun
*Pack for studying abroad
*Start panicking about how I'm going to be in London in just one short month

I'll be in Oregon for the first day of July, but once the second hits I'll be shipped off to London for a week and a half, Oxford for half a week, and then Paris for two weeks. I'll be getting back around 11 pm on the 31st. So I'm going to be abroad for Camp.

I'm going to attempt it still. I do have an entire plane ride on the way home to panic write, after all. :tongue

I have way too many goals for June, as usual. I'm curious to see how many of these I'll finish.

  • Finish first draft of Demonic Pact (current word count: 40k/65-70k words).
  • Work on my horror short, which I just got back from the proofreader.
  • Finish first draft of Ghostslayer (current word count: 40k/65-70k words).
  • Continue writing a short story every week (that means 4 short stories).
  • Outline Angel Assassin. (I plan to write this during CampNaNo July)
  • Write the first part in my dark fiction serial, Fire & Brimstone. (word count: 0k/8-10k words).
  • Work on my “Penny Dreadful” novella, Faithless (not at all inspired by the awesome TV series).
  • Send out my newsletter (which goes out today, yay!)
  • Work on website for my dark fiction (mini-goals: add newsletter subscription, add info about first book, add author bio).
  • Three editing projects for clients during June (so far).
  • Three proofreading projects for clients during June (so far).

I'm also repeating some old goals.

Finish editing Witches for Hire in the first week, and finish two rough drafts by the end of the month. *Shakes fist at June* I will defeat you!

Review WIP and finish those reviews. Mostly need to beef up the word count.
Finish the next WIP. So it can go into the waiting for editing stage.
4 blog posts.
4 books.

1. Gonna try and take it easy this month. I burnt myself out over the last few months, so July is mostly going to be catching up on beta reading, normal reading, and watching TV.
2. Get 20k and an outline done for a new project, and then I can use CampNaNo to finish it off. Starting wordcount is 20,000, aiming for 40,000.
3. If my beta readers get back to me about the manuscript I've just sent them, I'll switch gears to that and try to very quickly redraft that based on feedback before sending it out for another round.

I didn't do well last month, so I'm going to set general goals in the hopes I can then cross stuff off :tongue

  • Finish something. (I've got a few choices here, so I don't care which.)
  • Prep for Camp NaNo.
  • Keep on top of Submissions.

Hopefully I'll have a better check in at the end of the month :)

So, Day 1 of June wasn't terribly productive, but I had errands and appointments to deal with. Got a little writing done; started Pratchett's The Color of Magic.

I haven't gotten my book back from the printers, so I'm waiting to start edits. Instead of outlining for my July novel, I wrote a couple scenes today, but I did something, so I'm happy with that. Plus, I wrote several book reviews that I'd been putting off and one for a book I finished today. Overall, not a bad start to the month, though I didn't hit most of my goals.

1. Redline the next book in my series.
2. Get it published this month.
3. Outline for my July Camp novel.
4. Finish reading all the books I've started (got about half done in May).
5. Review each book as I finish.

Surprisingly productive day yesterday: wordcount wasn't that high, but the plotbunnies were hopping around madly and I managed to get a really nice sense of voice going for the WIP.

Really really really behind on my read-along commitments and beta reads, though.

So, Day 1 of June wasn't terribly productive, but I had errands and appointments to deal with. Got a little writing done; started Pratchett's The Color of Magic.

Ooooh, enjoy The Colour of Magic! Is this a re-read or your first read? :D

Okay June goals are going to be scary...

  • Finalize query (aka stop going back to try major changes)
  • Add to agents-to-send-to list (up to 20?)
  • Join QueryTracker
  • Polish opening pages of SK (or whatever it name will be)
  • Oh, finalize a name for SK
  • Send out one query, to someone, somewhere
  • Finish current beta read
  • Keep up with homework for my class
  • Attend my class
  • Plot for July (even though I totally will be editing through July-Camp)
  • Revise for Hexes?

I do not like this list. I did put a few softballs on there, but really I have no idea what I'll be doing this month.

My first. I'd read several of Pratchett's shorter works but hadn't tackled any of the Discworld series. On TAMaxwell's advice, I read Wyrd Sisters first and liked it a lot. I'm not sure how deep I want to get into the series (I like Pratchett but sometimes he gets a little precious for my taste), but I thought I'd start at the beginning and see how far I get.

A quick run-down of today's goals (some are mini-goals to reach my bigger goals for the month, others are random goals for the day):

  • Write a review on my book blog
  • Write three reviews for InDTale Magazine (July-August issue)
  • Write 2k in Demonic Pact (current word count: 44k words)
  • Proofread three chapters + epilogue for client project (should be finished with it then, it's a novella)
  • Edit one chapter for client project
  • Work on book cover for client

My goals for June!

* Finish the first draft of my WIP -- I've been writing really slowly on this one, time to just hammer it out to the end. If I write 1,000 words a day this month, I'll finish the first draft.
* Get the blog on my author website up and running a bit more.
* I'm running a LGTBQ lit Blogathon event ... so crossing fingers and hoping that it'll all go okay next week!
