All time ten favourites... in no particular order (can't choose an order) and given that there are probably another ten of fifteen songs that ought to be on the list - on a different day I'll probably choose a different ten. Number 1 is genuinely number 1 and would remain number one no matter what day it is or what mood I'm in when I compile the list.

1. The Raven, Omnia (also the whole of The Raven by Edgar Allen Poe as my all time favourite poem).

2. The Well, Omnia / The Well Below the Valley, Christy Moore (can't decide which version I like best)
3. Since I've been loving You, Led Zeppelin
4. Stairway to Heaven, Led Zeppelin (also really like the live version by Heart that was performed at the Kennedy honours thing)
5. 1st and 3rd movements of Moonlight Sonata by Beethoven (I think he was being sarcastic when he wrote the 2nd movement)
6. Children, Robert Miles
7. Insomnia or God is a DJ (sorry, can't choose between them), Faithless
8. Only our Rivers, Planxty. (Also pretty much everything else by Planxty/Christy Moore.)
9. Adagio in G minor, Albinoni
10. There are maybe another ten or fifteen songs/pieces of music (and entire albums by Led Zeppelin) that are clamouring to be included in this list. Too much good music and not enough numbers in the list. So I can't choose number ten.

5. Giacomo Puccini
6. The Kinks
7. Pyotr Illych Tchaikovsky

9. Scott Joplin
10. Queen
11. Franz Liszt
12. Frederic Chopin

Let's see if I can name ten of my favorite bands off the top of my head...

IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER!
1.) Iron Maiden's always been consistent.
2.) Always felt Megadeth was underrated.
3.) Early In Flames still gets me going.
4.) Judas Priest. Painkiller. Yes.
5.) Immortal Technique. Yep, a rapper in there!
6.) Just got into the Red Hot Chili Peppers, but they're great stuff.
7.) Immortal has a couple of albums I still listen to today.
8.) Anything Ronnie James Dio has done. Black Sabbath, Elf, Rainbow, his eponymous band, all of it.
9.) Type O Negative may be slow at times, but still good.
10.) Screw it, another rapper -- 2pac's flow at times is killer.

It's tough to narrow it down to ten. This is my list (not necessarily in this order):

Beatles
Eric Clapton (solo and various bands: Yardbirds, Blues Breakers, Cream, Derek & the Dominos)
Eagles
Tom Petty
Creedence Clearwater Revival
New Riders of the Purple Sage
Crosby, Stills, and Nash (without Young)
Allman Brothers Band
Lynyrd Skynyrd
The Byrds

This is a live Tom Petty performance that is especially good:

The Waiting

Yes, this music is dated, but it's the best of what I've listened to for many years (since the early/mid '60's). I learned to play guitar from listening over and over and playing along with a lot of this music, and it still moves and inspires me.

This is basically impossible but I'll try.

.. Nah, can't be done. I'll try two. the long-term faves that I keep getting back to and have done so for decades, and the ones that I've only (re-) discovered relatively recently but have been playing all the more to make up for it.

... Nah, couldn't be done either.

1. Long-term favorites:
David Bowie
The Kinks
J. Geils Band
The Waterboys
David Byrne (and, by extension, Talking Heads, but definitely Byrne)
Brian Eno
The Go-Go's (really just the one album but it's been with me since I was 14)
Joe Jackson
XTC
Rush

2. Runners-up and earlier influences:
The Grateful Dead
10CC/Godley&Creme
Rickie Lee Jones
Stevie Ray Vaughan
Led Zeppelin
Golden Earring
Elvis Costello
Charlie Mingus
Early Bruce Springsteen
Billy Joel

3. Heavy rotation favorites:
Marvin Gaye
Marian Call
Living Colour
Kate Rogers
Earth, Wind & Fire
Dr. Feelgood
Joan Jett (all things Runaways, really, but Joan was my 'in')
Little Feat
Taj Mahal
Judith Holofernes

And, knowing me, I'll be back soon with a list of "Top Ten Acts I Can't Believe I forgot the First Time".

Oh, dear. How could I ever decide? No particular order.

1. Bowie
2. Bob Dylan/ Leonard Cohen (shared spot because I liked them both a lot more when I was younger, don't listen to them so much now)
3. Van Morrison
4. The Who
5. The Kinks
6. King Crimson
7. Tupac
8. Bikini Kill (or L7, Sleater-Kinney, or Bratmobile, came to Riot Grrl music late but have a certain ideological appreciation)
9. Chopin.
10. Morrissey* (asterisk because I can't countenance his antics)

Of course, now I'm uncool and now listen mostly to video game soundtracks.

OMG I forgot to put Rush on my list. Please, oh mighty God, forgive me for this great sin.
