The Product was first sold in October 2016 and last sold on April 30, 2018. The Product’s intended use is as a solvent for extracting essential oils from plant material, and contains warnings including “HARMFUL IF SWALLOWED. MAY CAUSE DAMAGE TO ORGANS.”

I had no idea how many recalls there were until reading this thread.

E. Coli Outbreak At Local Organic Sandwich Shops: King County [Seattle area]
Four people in King County have been sickened with E. coli since May 23 after eating at three different Homegrown stores: Redmond, Kirkland, and the Westlake Avenue shop in Seattle. All of the people sickened at the chicken pesto sandwich, according to health officials....

If you have eaten at Homegrown and have E. coli symptoms - bloody diarrhea in particular - visit your physician to get tested for the virus. [It's a bacteria, not a virus  ] ...

Homegrown released a statement about the outbreak, saying the stores are taking "aggressive" action to prevent further infections.

"The incidents occurred at our Redmond, Kirkland and South Lake Union stores in Washington State. We are taking aggressive action to ensure these are isolated incidents. Specifically, we removed the sauce from our stores as soon as we were notified of the incidents, and we are working closely with all vendors in our supply chain to ensure that all potential food safety risks are eliminated," the statement read.

I read this thread every day. We have no food sensitivities and don't use much processed food, but the e coli and salmonella links get my attention.

Fifty plus years ago my Mom had a casual friend who was allergic to tree nuts, really allergic. Another mutual casual friend thought it was "all in her head". For a potluck she made that dessert where you put fruit cocktail in whipped cream. And added finely ground nuts. The woman who was allergic almost died. This was in the days before epipens etc. They threw her in a car and drove her to the hospital that was half a mile away. It was faster than calling an ambulance.

The recalls for undeclared allergens can be deadly serious for some people. I appreciate all the effort that goes into keeping this thread up to date.

One of several links: Local news: Salmonella outbreak linked to pre-cut Walmart melon
SPRINGFIELD, Illinois — The Illinois Department of Public Health is recommending that no one eat pre-cut melon bought at a Walmart store in the state, due to an outbreak of salmonella.

So far, six cases have been reported in the state – as well as several other cases in Indiana, Michigan, Missouri and Ohio – in all regions of Illinois, the IDPH release stated. Janet Hill, COO of the Rock Island County Health Department, said the agency hasn’t indicated whether any cases are from the Illinois Quad-Cities, but urged consumers to not eat pre-cut melon from area Walmarts.

A Centers for Disease Control investigation determined that the multistate outbreak indicates pre-cut melons and fruit salads are the likely source of the salmonella cases.

“The Illinois Department of Public Health is urging people not to eat pre-cut melon purchased from any Walmart store in Illinois, or any of the other affected states, at this time,” said IDPH Director Nirav D. Shah. “If you have recently purchased pre-cut melon from
Walmart, throw it out. If you have recently eaten pre-cut melon from a Walmart store and experience diarrhea, fever, and cramps, contact your health care provider.”

Caito Foods, LLC Recalls Fresh Cut Melon Products Because of Possible Health Risk

Caito Foods is voluntarily recalling fresh cut watermelon, honeydew melon, cantaloupe and fresh-cut mixed fruit containing one of these melons, produced at the Caito Foods facility in Indianapolis, because these products have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. Reports of illnesses linked to these products are under investigation, and Caito Foods is voluntarily recalling the products out of an abundance of caution. The company has been advised by the CDC that it has linked 58 illnesses to the strain of Salmonella under investigation. Caito Foods has ceased producing and distributing these products as the company and FDA continue their investigation.

The products were packaged in clear, plastic clamshell containers and distributed in Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, North Carolina and Ohio.

Because it is possible that products shipped between April 17 and June 7, 2018 could still be on store shelves, this recall extends to both retailers and consumers.
