I was shocked to read about the death of Merri Hyatt last night. Maybe a moderator can move this to the proper place to remember her.

Thank you for letting us know, CatSlave. I never talked to Merri Hiatt, but I loved seeing her posts and followed her Self-publishing thread. She will be very missed.

Oh no, really? Sad news - she's meant a lot to the self-pub community here. A kind, generous person. RIP.

I'm so sorry to read this! What a loss for all of us. She's been a great source of inspiration and information for those of use who frequent the self-publishing forum. My thoughts go out to her family and loved ones.

We're attempting to verify this at the moment.

ETA: Merri's pastor has confirmed that Merri suffered a heart attack and passed away last night.

She will be much missed. She was unfailingly kind and a beacon to many of us.

She was a much-loved and well-respected longtime community member. She'll be deeply missed here.

I was so upset when I learned of Merri's passing.

She was a hugely supportive and positive force in our Self Publishing room; she was generous with her praise and encouragement, and never failed to step in and help where she could. And she was passionate about her writing, and about publishing her books in the best ways that she could.

I am really going to miss her.

She lived in the PNW (as I do) and I'd always hoped to meet her one day at some writing event. I'll bet she was a fun lunch companion.

I'd "liked" her FB page last year and followed her postings there. Her last entry was dated March 21 and mentions that her mom had died at the end of January. The header picture is an array of her books - colorful, eye-catching, and quite nicely done.

I hope she knew how much she was admired here.

I never interacted with her, but had seen her around the forum. Something about her presence was very comforting. So even though I don't really know her, it truly saddens me to hear about her sudden passing. RIP, Ms. Merri.

This is so sad. She was such a kind and generous person, always sharing her knowledge and showing interest in others.
Wishing her family lots of comfort and strength.

Wow, sad and shocking.

RIP Merri. You were an inspiration to all of us, especially those caught up in PA. You proved what can happen if we never give up.

As has been said, repeatedly, in this thread, Merri was an uncommonly kind soul. Might I suggest that those who so wish perform some 'random act of kindness' in her memory sometime in the next few days? I think that would be a most fitting memorial to Merri.

That's a lovely idea. And yes, very fitting.

I never interacted with Merri Hyatt, but like others, read and benefited from her posts about her self-publishing experiences.

I'll miss her kindness and honesty.
