Hi all,

For my editing class, I have to make a lengthy comment on a document that I have edited.

I am not sure when to use quotation marks or if I am supposed to italicise when quoting text from the document...

1. Currently, any text quoted from the document is just simply "this is from the document" (and I don't italicise it).

If I am offering a suggestion to replace the text from the document, I italicise my suggestion: this is what should go in the document. (And I don't use quotes.)

Is this correct?

2. Also, if I am quoting one word from the document, should I use quotes or should I italicise? Eg:

The difference between the words hand and hands is that one is plural.

(or should it be)

The difference between the words "hand" and "hands" is that one is plural.

Your assistance is appreciated.
