British artist Roger Dean, who has painted album covers for progressive rock bands Yes and Asia, among others, has filed suit in New York against James Cameron, claiming that his visual imagery was copied and exploited for the film "Avatar."

I think this will be a difficult case to pursue. IANAL, but I have gotten the impression that visual plagiarism has to be really egregious, and I am not sure how clear a case Mr. Dean has.

I still have the album covers he created and after viewing his gallery, he may have a somewhat weak point.

Of course, IANAL, so I am unsure how much he has to prove...

Interesting. I'd have to see a side by side comparison. But I am pretty sure he didn't invent the idea of floating land masses.
