Yeah, yeah, they don't call them that anymore - but you know what I mean. Call it a CD or an MP3 playlist, it's still the same idea.

You make a collection of songs for somebody... usually a newish boyfriend or girlfriend or someone you hope to date.

The songs themselves might not be as important as the lyrics because you always try to 'sneak' in some semi-hidden message of how you feel about them (consciously or unconsciously!).

So gimmie a play list!

Make a brand new list of what you might do this very minute... or copy the titles of the last collection you made? Either way!

(Minimum ten, maximum twenty titles)

*Please don't quote lyrics*

=)

They are still called mixtapes however sets is often used, especially when referring to what a dj does.

I've never had a knack for making them but I do prefer listening to mixtapes and sets over albums (although I have come across some albums that do a swell job of making use of the mixtape/set medium.)

The only 'mixtape' 'playlist' I've ever made has been for myself... I call it 'Writing' and it plays over and over and over and over... It's a different playlist for every book, too. I had one playlist with one song on it for 'Before I Forget September'. I must've heard 'Tell It Like It Is' a billion times.

I don't think it's a matter of age, really. I've never heard of most of those bands either.

I think it's because I live under a rock. (And for reference, nobody here has mentioned a single band that I have in my CD collection. So I'm either super-lame or super-awesome. ;))

shankill butchers - the decemberists

... intense.
Had to give them a listen.
The original Decemberists were mentioned
in a 19th century russian novel I once read.

The Decembrist revolt or the Decembrist uprising (Russian: Восстание декабристов, translit: Vosstanie dekabristov) took place in Imperial Russia on 26 December [O.S. 14 December] 1825. Russian army officers led about 3,000 soldiers in a protest against Nicholas I's assumption of the throne after his elder brother Constantine removed himself from the line of succession. Because these events occurred in December, the rebels were called the Decembrists (Dekabristy, Russian: Декабристы). This uprising, which was suppressed by Nicholas I, took place in the Senate Square in Saint Petersburg. In 1925, to mark the centenary of the event, the square was renamed as Decembrist Square, but in 2008 it reverted to its original name.

I have cd around here somewhere... that a person (okay, yes a guy...) made me several years ago. He had taken the time to make a very real looking card stock case with artwork and pages and lyrics and it's something else. *the front is a photo of the long gone Point Pleasant Bridge, the back is two 'mothman' like creatures kissing in silhouette...

He entitled it "Span" and here's the track listing:

It Probably Always Will - Ozark Mountain Daredevils
AC/DC - Joan Jett & The Blackhearts
Spaceboy - Smashing Pumpkins
Under The Milky Way Tonight - The Church
Running Up That Hill - Placebo
Wind of Change - Hawkwind
Cotton Crown - Sonic Youth
1000 Feet Below You - Golden Earring
One in a Million - Lene Lovich
Love & Anger - Kate Bush
Sadly Beautiful - The Replacements
If I Only had A Heart - The Afghan Whigs
Hymn To Her - The Pretenders
Say Something - James

*geez, wonder why I just so happened to know right where it was?...* =)
