I'm always slightly amused by the American obsession with having unnaturally perfect, brilliant-white gnashers. Is it a status-symbol kind of thing?

I don't care so much for the 'brilliant-white' part (they do look... I dunno... somehow... alien)... but having straight teeth that are more aligned than not saves pain and money in the long run. Glow-in-the-dark white teeth give me the heebie-jeebies!
