Salt Cay Writers Retreat - Oct 20-26 - Bahamas

Registration for Backspace's newest endeavor, the Salt Cay Writers Retreat October 20-26 on Salt Cay, Bahamas, is now open!

My Backspace business partner Chris Graham and I are very excited to have been invited to organize and run such a stellar event. The faculty is absolutely amazing:

    • Robert Goolrick, #1 New York Times bestselling author
    • Jacquelyn Mitchard, #1 New York Times bestselling author
    • Chuck Adams, Executive Editor, Algonquin Books (the editor for WATER FOR ELEPHANTS!)
    • Amy Einhorn, Publisher and Vice President, Amy Einhorn Books (the editor who published THE HELP!)
    • Steven Fisher, Vice President, Agency for the Performing Arts (the agent who put together Lee Child's Jack Reacher film deal!)
    • And several agents from my agency, Folio Literary Management: Michelle Brower, Erin Harris, Jeff Kleinman, Founder, and Erin Nuimata, Senior Vice President

To that incredible faculty, add a sunset dinner cruise, swimming with dolphins as part of the curriculum, island feasts with local entertainment. Finish with plenty of time to write in a beautiful, secluded, and inspiring setting.

With 65 students and 10 faculty members, the Salt Cay Writers Retreat focuses on craft at an MFA level in a non-academic setting. Published authors who wish to take their writing to the next level are welcome to apply

While the retreat has a narrower focus than our New York conference, which is non-genre and basically open to everyone (advanced literary and upmarket commercial fiction writers, memoirists, and narrative non-fiction writers, published and unpublished), we're thrilled to be able to offer these authors such a fabulous opportunity.

For a limited time, qualified Absolute Write members can save an additional $500 on top of the early registration discount. Just put “Absolute Write 2013” in the “coupon code” field when you fill out the application form. The SCWR will also waive the $10 application fee. Offer expires 4/20/2013.

And here's a fun tidbit: William Styron put the finishing touches on Sophie’s Choice while vacationing on Salt Cay. Styron loved Salt Cay and dreamed of one day establishing a writers' colony on the island. We think he'd be pleased!

If you know of an author who would be a good fit for this event, feel free to pass along the discount, and thanks! http://saltcaywritersretreat.com/
