Hi. Where is the best place here to post a query letter for review, suggestions, etc?

There is a query section in the Share Your Work critique subforum of the AW Writing Lab, but you need to participate in AW and get your post count up to 50 before you can put your own work up for critique. Fortunately, there's a quick and useful way to get your post count up to 50: critique other people's stories and query letters!

You can post your query in our Query Letter Hell room, which is part of Share Your Work: but in order to start a thread there, you have to have made at least fifty posts here: we put the rule in place to stop people doing a hit-and-run and taking advantage of our members' expertise without contributing.

The best way to build up to fifty posts is to help critique other writers' works. If you reach fifty by making single word or one line comments, they'll just get deleted.

Sorry to sound so strict. I hope you enjoy your time here. It's not all rules and instruction; and welcome to AW!

Don't listen to Old Hack!!! We are harsh, harsh taskmasters!!! You must toe the line, do your part, put in the time, blood, sweat, and tears!!! Fifty posts or you shall be summarily flogged, metaphorically speaking, which is the ONLY way we speak to newbies.

You think boot camp for Navy Seals is tough???

You have no idea.

Hi and welcome to AW.

Best place to hone your skills to write your own query letter is to read others posted on SYW and the comments that they generate. Have a go at critiquing yourself. You should get a handle on what is required, especially if you also look in on the AW instructional sites on query letters.

Hi and welcome!

Just to add on to the advice already given, don't just read the stickies -- consider how they apply to your query letter and make those improvements to it before posting. You will get much more helpful feedback if you're not making the exact same mistakes we've seen a million times already.

Also, of course, read the Query Shark:
