Possibly an obscure name, but for someone who avoided working in theatre and film, his works were of the same ilk of Krzysztof Penderecki, Gyorgiy Ligeti, Mortmon Feldman, and Ianni Xenakis.
His works, of those that I have heard, are more reminiscent of the maximalist movement and sounded more like computer operating orchestras than eerie soundscapes of Ligeti and Penderecki. I personally found him very difficult to embrace but can appreciate what his music contributed.
