Smashwords is opening up the Smashwords platform to allow all NaNoWriMo participants to publish, share, track and promote their works-in-progress.
Yup. That's what it looks like to me, too.

Does that sound like a real recipe for book suicide or what... as if there weren't enough ebooks out there being constantly revised.

Like most things, I think it depends on your purpose and goal. If you're writing something just for fun, then why not? I think it might be interesting to share the creative process so people can see how a book is formed in a rough draft write-it-in-one-month form. It's not about trying to sell it to strangers but an easy way to share your work with other NaNo people or friends who are following your progress.

I've put the first two chapters of my book up there (clearly labeled as a work in progress) and plan to add each chapter when I finish.
