The number of sold books required to catch the attention of a literary agent.
Egads. Honestly, it's higher than I thought. It seems like with print it used to be that five thousand was impressive, and then last year people were saying ten, and now it's as high as twenty.
Does anyone know if this is most likely because a few people have done very well and raised the bar, or because publishers are requiring bigger sales numbers in general before considering an author? I know it seems like lately publishers are being a lot pickier about what they are willing to try.
