Can't believe it's taken me so long to realise this. Not only do Namatu and liz have lead female characters called Elena, my lead female is called Selena!

Crikey, is it obligatory for tough, resourceful women to have Greek names? :D

We just need a Helena and a Jelena now to complete the set...

That's my older twin's name in my memoir, which was released on Monday. She chose it. That's one more Elena with a significant role in a book.

I've had Elenas in my stories for twenty years. I don't know why! I may have known a few Elaines and Elainas in my life, but the spelling makes all the difference. :D

This particular Elena was born in early 2010. I've noodled with a few novel ideas since then, and she keeps showing up. Originally she wasn't going to be in this one at all, but I'm glad she stuck around. She's been useful.

So we should maybe start a private Elena club?

My Elena was born (in the Greek way, springing forth from my head) in the early 1990s. It's taken me awhile to figure out how to tell her story the way it deserves.

In grade school Spanish class the teacher gave us all Spanish names - mine was Elena - does that count?

So I snuck a "Helen" into my Hallowe'en ghost story. It seemed only right.

We could make it an MTS tradition. At least one female character with an "elen" syllable (or phonetic equivalent) in every story...
