This is a new thread for authors who are looking for artists and / or designers for their book covers.

Please include a brief description of your writing (genre at the very least) and whether you are looking simply for art (illustration) or for a designer as well (who will deal with overall cover look, typography, and layout).

Please also give a general sense of your budget. If you don't have a firm sense of budget, may I suggest the following categories:

Bargain-basement ($50 - $200)
Low ($200-$500)
Medium-Low ($500-$750)
Professional ($750 - $2000+)

If you are writing a children's book, please see "Children's Writers: You Don't Hire the Artist"

I'm looking for a cover artist for my gritty fantasy romance novel. Just the art -- I have a graphic design background, so I can handle that side of things.

Budget: $900. I'm looking to start the process soon/now, because I want to have the book ready to drop by mid-November. Manuscript is with at the freelance editor.

Message me here or email [email protected] with a link to your portfolio. I'm looking for a gritty style more than a romantic one. Historical accuracy a plus -- my fantasy "look" is based on late 13th century European tech/garb.

My query/blurb:

The saints favor her, else-wise a peasant girl like Kate Carpenter would never be apprenticed to the kingdom’s master healer. But her patron saint also marks her ready for the duty of tending to a mission that must cross the ice-bound mountains. Their little kingdom faces invasion by a vast empire and desperately needs allies; across the snow-filled pass, through the deathly thin air, is a country that’s held off the empire and may be willing to lend an army.

Kate knows about frostbite and the everyday injuries of wilderness travel. She can heal those.

She’s not ready for the attentions of a ne’er-do-well knight and the kingdom’s only prince, though.

And she isn’t ready for the monsters that harry them night and day, picking off their archers first, wearing the party to exhaustion, pushing Kate beyond the limits her healing abilities.

She must keep them alive, or her blood will be on the snow too.

Disciple, Part I: For Want of a Piglet will be available in e-book and paperback November, 2012

Edit: I've selected an artist and am moving ahead with cover design, so please disregard this notice. Thanks!

I'm looking for a cover artist for a short story I'm hoping to release on Amazon Kindle. The cover would include the art, as well as the title and my name.

Since this is just a short story, my budget is fairly limited, $50 to $100 (possibly a bit more). However, if this project goes well, I hope to continue with others, so there may be repeat business.

The genre of the story is science-fiction. Here's a short blurb I wrote to give you an idea of what it's about:

"After witnessing the horrific death of her best friend in the vacuum of space, Macy Jensen is ruled unfit for duty on extra-vehicular missions. As a technician for the Accelerator Bridge--which spans a starless region known as the Abyss--this means the end of her career.

But when the Bridge suffers a catastrophic malfunction before she's shipped out, every single technician is called on duty. Macy is assigned to fix Accelerator Ring 7. The malfunctioning Ring has already destroyed an ammo carrier, and next in its queue is a cruise liner carrying five thousand passengers.

If she wants to save all those lives, Macy will have to race against the clock, dodge unexploded ordinance...and face her fear of a cold, lonely death in the starless void."

If interested in the project, please PM me here on this site, and I will give you my e-mail so that we can discuss details. Thanks so much!

SEEKING PRE-DESIGNED BOOK COVER ARTIST/FORMATTING

I am starting to take a look at pre-designed book cover art for my novel and several short stories. Don't have a lot of money to spend right now but can barter services sich as proofreading and copyediting. Also have a first-tier background as a journalist and media specialist.

If your rates are reasonable and/or are willing to barter, please contact me.

Hello fellow writers! As a novelist and experienced graphic designer I have been thinking how I can put those skills to use in the writing community, so I have opened a shop on Esty designing e-book covers. I would really love it if you would share this with all your writer friends and if you ever want a cover designed for your novel/short story/children's book/ poetry let me know!

Thanks!

Designs start at $150.00

I'm looking for an illustrator to do the cover for my e-book. It's an urban fantasy and my intended cover design involves three characters, two of whom aren't human. Please contact me if you are interested so we can discuss it.

Edit: Also, if said illustrator is interested in doing semi-regular work, I have decided to split my work up into parts and need covers for each part.

Hello,

I am looking to self-pub a series of M/M short stories that feature cyborgs. I am looking for a cover designer/illustrator who can provide me with one cover image. I have an exact idea for the cover I'd like, and I'd like to alter just the title and series number for each book-so I'll use the same cover image for the series itself.

Cost: I'll pay up to $200 for the image.

Contact: Please PM me if you are interested.

I'm looking for some internal black and white sketches for my Middle Grade fantasy novel. I'm after four in total and want them to be straight forward sketches of a high standard. It's one of those "I will know it when I see it" moments!

PM me if you are interested or have some portfolios for me to browse through

I'm looking for a designer who is good with photo manipulation to design the cover for the first book in my new adult fantasy trilogy. My price range is $100-$150.

Macabre Novel Cover

I'm looking for a cover for my urban thriller. My budget is set at the bargain basement level.

Nothing fancy, just a macabre minimalist rendering of a woman's hand (more details if interested).

Don't know how "basement-ie" you want, but stormowl7 did a fantastic cover for me for not a lot of $. Check out her work. http://stormowlart.deviantart.com/gallery/

Update: It works! I have my artist. Thanks!

Hi! I'm looking for a cover artist for a four book project. I've decided to self-pub my cult classic fantasy trilogy, first as ebooks, and then we'll see. I'll be doing one book at a time, but should have the whole series done and publisheded by the end of the year. Money's tight, but I could probably go between $100-$200 per book. Could be more money per book after the first book depending on sales. It's high fantasy. I'm looking for something fairly minimalist in style as far as cover art. The first two books were published by small presses but are now out of print. The first was a Spectrum Award Nominee, as was the second which also was an IPPY Award semi-finalist and Book of the Year Award finalist. The first two books have achieved some cult status.

First book: Moonsword (release by mid-March 2015)
Second book: Empress of Clouds (release by mid-June 2015)
Third book: The Silver Light (release by mid-November2015)
Fourth book: The Moonsword Trilogy (all three novels in one edition, release by mid-December 2015).

To get some idea of the project check out:

or PM me for details or more contact info.

Thanks!

I'm looking for an artist/designer to do the cover for my next book "Hannah". It's horror, and I have a good idea of what I want, I just don't have the skills to really pull it off. It's pretty simple, and the budget is pretty tight at the moment. I'm basically looking for an ebook cover at the moment, but I'll want it expanded to something I can use for Createspace once money loosens up.

The budget is between $50 - $200, give or take, and like I said, my idea is pretty simple.

I'm the editor of an online magazine called Timeless Tales that publishes retellings of fairy tales and myths. We are currently putting on a cover design contest for our next issue, which will have the theme of Baba Yaga. We have a shoestring budget and so can only offer a $40 prize to the winner, but winning may open the door to future paid opportunities with us. Full details here: http://fairytalenewsblog.blogspot.com/2015/08/baba-yaga-cover-contest-for-timeless.html

I just saw this now, and was wondering how the contest went. Did you find what you were looking for?

Kansas! Again.
I am re-releasing an novella that has reverted to me as a Kindle ebook. It is an Arthur/Merlin gay romance (non-erotic for the most part). I am seeking a cover fairly similar to the old one by a little better designed. Looking to pay about $100 but negotiable if you have more interesting ideas for the design. The book also has a sequel that will need a cover in due course. Please PM with any questions, suggestions, or quotes. Please provide samples or previous work or link to a portfolio.

Your PM box is full. =)
