CyberDefender, who regularly try to cover their tracks by rotating domain names, is cutting back on TV spots for DoubleMySpeed.com and replacing them with ads for MyCleanPC.com.

By any name, they are to be avoided, as are all web sites that claim to speed up your PC. Buried in the End-User License Agreement are all kinds of clauses allowing them access to parts of your computer you wouldn't knowingly let a hacker get to.

Make your own FREE PC tune-up kit with products from www.piriform.com (though a donation is a nice gesture), use it once a month, and your PC will be fit for life without meddlesome malware masquerading as a PC tune-up.

I've used their CCleaner for years. It does a fabulous job and I wouldn't be without it.

Maybe you could add (SCAMS) to the thread title. If you need any support for that, there's this site that uses the word:

Their newest ad seems to be an attempt to cash in on the look and feel of Allstate's "Mayhem" ads, most notably the disheveled presenter.

The last round of DoubleMySpeed.com ads had an onscreen disclaimer any time the domain name was on the screen stating that the amount of improvement will vary. Translation: it doesn't double your speed.
