So you read a book and exclaim, "Wow, what an awesome movie this would make!" Then they make the movie, and you are disappointed with the results. It could have been so much better if only . . . .
What are some movies that have been made from books that you feel could have been better if only? Name them with your reasons.
I'll start with a few off the top of my head.
Congo. What a great book but bad movie for so many reasons, like changing the main female lead from super *itch to sad sympathetic lady. Well, I can't remember the other reasons but I was disappointed. Oh, the "talking" gorilla. In the book it used sign language. The movie used a sign language translator. It seemed so corny.
It. Awesome book, the movie was sooo TV movie. Tim Curry was good, and it succeeded on its on merit, but overall, thumbs down.
The Shining (TV version). See above, and "It's against the rules!" and all the added stuff about his alcoholism and AA meetings and "Things have a way of happening by themselves around here!" The book didn't try to explain what was going on. This movie did. Stanley Kubrick's version, oth, is one of my favorite movies of all time.
The Stand. How to make a TV movie out of such a long and complex book? They did okay, but it was sooo TV movie.
So many more movies from books. What else?
