Rate-a-Poem: I Want to Write

For some reason I was set against the title of the poem and expected not to like it. Five stars, although that's only because I still react to the wording that to give it four stars means there is something in the piece that doesn't work for me.

This is brilliant and makes me feel like a heathen for not having a strong cultural attachment. It makes me feel my muttliness. Sometimes I doubt the purity of sincerity when people invoke images of "my people." But not this time. Wonderful.

Out of curiousity, William, have you selected any poems that you don't like? We can't tell who voted what, which is good and this is just a point of personal curiosity.

I want to catch thier sunshine laughter in a bowl-

I don't know why, but that line bugged me, it didn't seem t fit with the rest of the prose, to upbeat and perky.

I bet it makes the selection process more fun too!

Would it be possible for you now, in retrospect, to mention one example of a poem you really did not like? And what made you offer it? I ask about poems you didn't like because some of your comments have made it more obvious which ones you probably enjoyed.

Only if you feel it won't muck up the exercise. Pretty please? With sugar on top.

Oh, forgot. I gave this one a 4. I liked the way it led me along.

I think this particular poem would move me ten times more if it were performed.

4 Stars. I too liked the prose but felt all the "I wants" detracted from the poem. It would do more for me if "I want" were said only in the first two lines.

Wow. This place is very accommodating.

Well, ten times more may have been a stretch, but hearing it definitely brings my three star vote up to a four. I had to use the .rm link rather than .ram for it to work on my computer, btw.


(I could also use a neck massage and new pair of gloves. Just throwing that out there.)
