Cheering you all on!
A song or two may be removed from some crowded areas, but this is pretty close to set.

Far happier than the last soundtrack I posted. There are a lot of covers too, hmm. Don't think I'll follow through on the originals, since I chose these versions specifically.

Link may work or not?

With my new "it's okay to be more than an hour" mentality on these soundtracks, I found this one especially hard to pare down. Every important scene could easily be from either MC's POV, since they are magically handcuffed and experience almost everything together. But, look, it's the same length as the last one!

Paranormal Bromance and Joy

1. Starlight - Muse
2. Son of a Gun - Motion City Soundtrack
3. Happiness Is - The Verve Pipe
4. Even If It Kills Me - Motion City Soundtrack
5. Somewhere - Default
6. Creature - Jericho
7. See the Sun - Dido
8. Home - Phillip Phillips
9. Live in the Moment - Portugal. The Man
10. Something to Talk About - Badly Drawn Boy
11. Cat's in the Cradle - Harry Chapin
12. Deja Vu - Coco Jones
13. Storm - Lifehouse
14. Happy Days Are Here Again/Get Happy - Lea Michelle and Chris Colfer (Glee)
15. In Noctem - Nicholas Hooper (Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince)
16. Could I Be You - Matchbox Twenty
17. Morningside - Sara Bareilles
18. Rest in Peace - James Marsters (Buffy the Vampire Slayer)
19. Good Enough - Hoobastank
20. Numb - Linkin Park
21. Angel Theme (the Sanctuary Extended Remix) - Darling Violetta (Angel)
22. All That We Needed - Plain White T's
23. Friends Never Say Goodbye - Elton John and Backstreet Boys (The Road to El Dorado)
24. Away From the Sun - 3 Doors Down
25. Here and Heaven - Stuart Duncan, Chris Thile, Edgar Meyer, Yo-Yo Ma, and Aoife O'Donovan*
26. Incantation - Delirium
27. Paint It Black - Vanessa Carlton
28. Follow You Down - Gin Blossoms
29. Know Who You Are - Auli'i Carvalho, Vai Mahina, Olivia Foa'i, Opetaia Foa'i, and Matthew Ineleo (Moana)
30. This Is For Real - Motion City Soundtrack
31. Never Gonna Let You Down - Colbie Caillat
32. Stand By You - Rachel Platten

*Will probably be replaced by a more appropriate song for this section

my WIP is an LGBT YA contemporary SFF romance with a male MC. the playlist is not so much a soundtrack as a mood-setter, the songs putting me in the headspace of my MC when i write or need an extra push.

Goodnight Song - Tears for Fears
Can’t Do a Thing (To Stop Me) - Chris Isaak
Regret - New Order

That's awesome. Sometimes I try to pick songs that capture the feel of the story or the characters. Do you give you characters like little "theme songs" so-to-speak?

Oh yeah. For my MC, that Gin Blossoms song "Til I Hear It From You" fits his melancholy mixed with hope that things will work out. Another one, Ride!" by Pretty and Twisted, is perfect for the older woman who is his mentor (the story is contemporary SFF as well).

This is actually a playlist a beta compiled after reading my novel! It doesn't have an overarching theme/genre/flow, but I thought it fit really well (she even detailed which songs applied to which scenes or characters!) so I've been listening to it lately as I edit. This is a YA fantasy.

Shatter Me - Lindsey Stirling
Battle Cry - Imagine Dragons
Skyfall - Adele
As We Fall - League of Legends
Die Another Day - Madonna
Paint It, Black - Ciara
Fighter - Christina Aguilera
Dirty Laundry Skeewiff Remix - Bitter:Sweet
Castle - Halsey
Castle of Glass - Linkin Park
Thrift Shop - Vitamin String Quartet
Work Bitch - Britney Spears
Look What You Made Me Do - Taylor Swift
Angel With A Shotgun - The Cab
Old Fashioned - Panic! At the Disco
Feel It Still - Portugal. The Man
Carol of the Bells - Straight No Chaser
Believer - Imagine Dragons
Salute - Little Mix
This Is War - Thirty Seconds to Mars
Centuries - Fall Out Boy
My Songs Know What You Did In the Dark - Fall Out Boy
The Reckoning - Halestorm
Play On - Paloma Faith
Home - ZZ Ward
Til the Casket Drops - ZZ Ward
Drop That Low (When I Dip) - Tujamo
Alive - Victoria Carbol
One Woman Army - Porcelain Black
Lost in the Echo - Linkin Park
Natural - Imagine Dragons
Born for Greatness - Papa Roach
I Did Something Bad - Taylor Swift
Roaring 20s - Panic! At the Disco
Break the Rules - Charlie XCX
When Will My Life Begin - Tangled soundtrack
Try Everything - Shakira

My WIP has flip-flopped between YA and the illusive New Adult category, but I really do love the playlist:

In a Week - Hozier ft. Karen Cowley
Trials (Demo) - London Grammar
When the Light Hits the Water - Matthew and the Atlas
O - Coldplay
FOOLS - Troye Sivan
Long & Lost - Florence and the Machine
Love in the Dark - Adele
Overture - Patrick Wolf
Dark Bloom - Amber Run
Hunger of the Pine - Alt-J
This is the Last Time - The National

Didn't put together a playlist for my novel yet but I can "hear" some scenes soundtracked by particular songs or pieces of music.
I guess my playlist would be full of early Coldplay and early Arcade Fire. Both of these bands capture the mood of my work (meandering between melancholic, introspective and soaring, anthemic)

Anyone else have particular composers or songwriters who just capture the mood of your work well ?

Spotify suggested some songs by Arcade Fire, I like their sound. Personally I went for a lot of 80's/early to mid 90's songs, since my MS takes place in 1996. Two indie bands that I embody the "magical" feel are Phox and Eisley. The story is a contemporary (time piece) fantasy.

Since fantasy is my thing I like listening to soundtracks from series that inspired my imagination and stretched it to its wildest limits (mostly tends to be anime and video game sound tracks).

In no particular order:

Hunter x Hunter OST
JoJo's Bizzarre Adventure OST's
Anything Ghibli
Zelda OST's

All of the Ghibli soundtracks are fantastic. A favourite of mine is 'The Merry-Go-Round of Life' from Howl's Moving Castle.

I'm currently obsessed with the Pet Shop Boys after watching a concert of theirs on TV with my mother.

'It's a Sin' is stuck in my head.

I only listen to music when I'm taking a break from writing, right now I'm done TrustCOmpany's 2002 record: the Lonely Position of the Neutral.
