Just six months ago, I was in the same boat as you. Then I read every book available on publishing magazine articles, sent out a bunch of queries, and now have a few bylines!
I am by no means an accomplished freelancer (yet), but many of the members of this site have published hundreds of times. Perhaps if you post a note on the Freelancer forum and tell us what you're writing, we can help you out.
