Not a Melbournian myself, but close by - Adelaide.

I'd love to live in Melbourne some day. I hear it's a lot more exciting than Adelaide, which wouldn't be too difficult. :tongue

Eh, at this point it's a distant dream.

Brisbane here but I've got the house on the market (I am an optimist) and want to buy a fifth wheeler and hit the road for a few years. So I might see you all at some stage.

The area just outside the Crown with the two big posts that pop out fire at night, that area is a lot like Darling Harbour in Sydney but our Star City just can't compare.

Those fire things scare the crap out of me when I walk passed them unawares!

Hello everyone! It's nice to see a lot of aussies on here, in any case :)
@Mumut, that sounds exciting. I do love Brisbane though. I even meant to visit last month, but decided to save my dollars. Or at least try too.

I'm also fond of Sydney. I was there in May for a zine fair at the MCA. If I could be buried anywhere it would be at Kinokuniya bookshop! Damn that place is huge.

I've never been to WA or Adelaide though. I am friends with a LOT Perthies though. One of these days I will be visiting Adelaide, as there's this festival around the same time as Fringe that I always mean to go to.

I'm also fond of Sydney.

A couple of years back I visited Tassie and really liked the craft markets in Hobart. It was early December and if anyone said they might be going to have a white winter I'd have believed them. It was freezing. Oh, then it rained for five minutes. Then the suncame out and it was hot for five minutes. Anyway, it was interesting.

We're on track to have the warmest August ever, has been 20-21 degrees for the last week. So don't start packing yet!

It just feels wrong to be able to wear shorts in winter and not be cold...

But summer is why I really want to be in Melbourne. Adelaide has some of the hottest summers in the country, whereas Melbourne has some of the cooler ones.

I think Hobart gets colder though.

It doesn't feel cool when we get a week straight of 45 degrees, so I hate to think how hot it must be for you! I've often contemplated summering in Tassie, or better still moving to a cooler country--I hate the heat!

I was under the impression that Melbourne summers topped out at about 40C on occasional days...

Adelaide generally has 44C+ or so for up to 10 days in a row most Februarys.

Hmm. Maybe I should move to Canada... :tongue

Nope, certainly the last few years we have had stretches of over 40. Usually as soon as we go back to school... :-( On the other hand, we have a lot of Canadian teachers here now, and they tell me they feel colder here than back at home because our heating is rubbish!
