Alright, here's the setup: I'm 6,300 words into a fantasy short I've titled "The Patient Prince" and I'm at a bit of a crossroad. I have had a pretty solid grasp on where I'm going, and have since the beginning, and despite the story growing somewhat and taking a couple of interesting turns, I'm still basically on-track.
The problem is that my story has literally zero fantasy in it. Aside from taking place is a secondary world, a neat-o order of knights, and what I hope is a unique and interesting twist, there isn't anything fantasy about my story. No dragons. No wizards. No magic. And I can't think of a place to fit any of those tropes into it.
So is my story actually fantasy? If not, what the hell is it?
