Hello all,

My internet crapped out on my on the evening of 31st March, mere hours before the April Fools' Day festivities. I have only just got the fecker up and running again - two weeks without internet access. Yeah. You get a lot of work done. And you go sort of bat-shit. But you get a lot of work done.

Anyway, I was thankfully able to send Mac the Steampunk'd banner right before I was nut-kicked off the grid but I wasn't able to participate in the day and I haven't been able to thank everyone for their kind comments about the banner. It was all very much appreciated. I was also asked for a link to the banner so I've included one below.

Since I've started a thread to thank y'all, I figure it may as well be as good a place as any to share any stories, thoughts, whatevers about that day for miserable chuckleheads like me who missed out. I know there were a lot of amazing avatars too so feel free to post copies of yours in this thread for posterity. It will eventually be moved to the April Fool's Day forum for filing and as evidence in future lawsuits.

(But please, no hotlinking images. Use Photobucket, Flickr or an equivalent).

Thanks again!

And finally, as a special thank you, it's my pleasure to present Steampunk'd.... animated! (and in HD!)

Love the animation!

Loved April Fools day too - it was beautiful, and so much fun. I think I spent that whole day at AW..!

Thanks again :)

That is AWESOME!

And Steampunk'd was tons of fun! Lots of cool avatars (I'm still using mine). It was like a giant costume party. ;)

And the Writing for Kids gang decided to keep our Party Dirigible. :D

So sorry you weren't able to join in all the fun. We missed you!

Next year I expect Dragon's. Big, scary dragons that eat maidens and small children.

Or Steampunk 2, as Steampunk 1 was cool.

What I'll remember most is the avatar madness. Everyone wanted new avatars. I spent like half my day changing avatars. The Fangsters have kept our steampunk avatars because they're awesome.

ETA: Oh my gosh! Love the animated version. Very, very cool.

Mac made me a Super just before April 1st and I was so looking forward to being able to change avatars for people (whether they asked for it or not :D). Watch out next year, I'm warning you now.

The surprising thing to me was how you could pretty much type X + steampunk into Google Images and discover that someone, somewhere had made a picture of it already. I won't go into just how far I took that discovery, but it's certainly a heeeyowage world all by itself.

The font MacAllister and the mods switched us to was beautiful. I can't find that font anywhere.

Your banner was awesome!

I changed my note above my avatar to state I was an AW Flying Monkey (mod). One person fell for it!

Hmm... I don't know the name of the board font off-hand but I'm sure we can track it down. The banner font was the very neat and aptly-named After Disaster font.

Yeah, that was cool! I thought I'd come back and be the only one still wearing the avatar, but they're all over the joint. :)

It's beautiful. You're alright, you are.

I will try to overlook, though, Mr. Clockwork, that you did not give me a steampunk avatar. I see where I rate.

ETA - and sadly, I missed the whole thing. I was in New Orleans, eating bugs and being a bridesmaid for the first time in ages.

No, no, I wasn't here! I would have happily hacked your avatar, but I was in the barren wasteland of no-net.

That animation is outstanding, Chris!

Who did it for you?

I killed someone for George Lucas once and he owed me a favour. :)

Seeing as Clockwork missed out on the fruits of all his hard work, I think it's only fair that we Steampunk the place up again. :D

As I told you that day, I was seriously impressed. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would give you a 10 for the banner (no joke).

Chris is one cool dude, isn't he?

I had lots of fun on April Fool's Day. I guess the joke was on Chris, missing out. :)

Loved the banner, too.

I loved the steampunk avatars, and copied a bunch of them to my computer. I have ... oh my, 90 of them in a folder that's 1.4 megabytes. Ouch.

Do you think you can use them? They are identified as avatars with numbers, but not the people whose avatars they are.

How do you use Photobucket or Flickr? Do you need an account? I assume what clockwork was saying is don't just post a link to the images, as per normal in signatures.

Not that I'd post 90 images anyway.

They are so gorgeous. People really got into the steampunk theme.

Photobucket allows you to register for free, then you upload your images to your "album". There's a choice of four codes beneath each picture once they're loaded, you copy/paste the one that says "IMG" (image) into the text box here on the board and the picture will appear.

Let's see, for posterity's sake:

Steampunk me (my AFD avi):
steampunk-1.jpg

The Steampunk Ipad:
ipad2.jpg

The movie Disney would make if they had any sense:
steampunkprincess-1.jpg

And the Home Computational Engine:
computationalengine4-1.jpg

I did a few avis for people, too, but I don't have all of them saved. :(

ETA: Next year should be Dystopias. The Absolute End of life as we know it.
