I couldn't figure out how to get my counter to show correctly after I pasted it into my AW signature area, it was still just words when I posted. I had to ask Sassy3421 how she did it. So I thought I'd post it here.

And if you don't have a counting widget, log into your account at the NaNoWriMo site. You have to log in first so when you get to the widget page the code for the counter has your NaNo user number in it.
Go to 'Fun Stuff" scroll down to "Word count widgets"
Look through the widget page and pick one you like. Copy the line of code. Come here to AW and go to your "edit signature"
Paste the code in your signature.
Its the tags at the beginning and end that you have to change in order for it to show in a forum post:
At the beginning of the code line take out <img src=" and put
At the end of the code line take out " /> and put

No it doesn't have to be in red. I just did that so you could see clearly what has to be changed.

Happy NaNo-ing! :hi:

Thank you HistorySleuth! This thread should be made a sticky.

OOOoooooo ..... I've never said anything important enough to be stickied!

(Is stickied even a word? I don't think its a word.... but it works!)

And I shall publicly thank Sassy3421 over in the M/T/S threads for helping me. :e2flowers When I realized quite a few of us were having that problem, seemed the most efficient way to handle all of us was to post it. Glad everyone is finding it!

Thanks for posting this!

ETA: Hmm, my widget doesn't match my Nano site word count. Maybe I need to wait a bit for it to update?

I don't know Raine. Mine does it right away. How about the rest of you?

Edit: OK I updated my words at NaNo this morning and it isn't reflecting here. It should say 10,730 but still shows 8378. Must be something with the NaNo site.

OK from the tech portion of NaNo the widget uses cached data so it doesn't overload the system. It updates on a schedule every so many hours (although it didn't say how many exactly) so it should catch up.

Mine delays, quite a bit. But it depends.

At this posting both the sig and Nanolyser reported 45370: NaNoWriMo had it logged at 46680, some minutes or so ago.

Well, poop. My widget seems defective. It doesn't think I've written anything at all.

ETA: Never mind. Operator error.

A Fix?

I am trying so hard NOT to deal with a mystery this trip around. I re-copied the widget code into my signature. It worked. I know not why. I am grateful. I now will discover the next procrastination. I'm good like that. IT's just how I roll. :)
