Walpurgis Night - 1st of May

Day Of The Dead - 1st/2nd November

The weird stuff is all I seem to retain. Birthdays, anniversaries and bank holidays are always a mystery for me...

Walpurgis Night - 1st of May

Day Of The Dead - 1st/2nd November

Can you tell me a bit about the first one?

Regarding the second one, I don't think it fits within the spirit of the calendar, as it's not a holiday celebrating the country. We have it here as well (on the 1st), and it's quite common for people to go pay homage to their loved ones who have since passed on with a trip to the cemetery where they've been laid to rest.

:)

Hmm, I don't see Argentina. I'm usually really bad at remembering holidays, but a couple of the main ones are...

May 25 - Día de la Patria/Día de la Revolución
June 20 - Flag Day
July 9 - Independence Day

Dates added. I love how the calendar keeps growing.

Can I just say I find it really weird that there are only three national days in January and they're all on the same day? :Wha:

Thailand's great, there are at least 16 public holidays, and most years more. There isn't a national day, as such, but today is Mother's Day, as it's the Queens's birthday and December 5th is Father's Day, as it's the King's birthday.

Guy Fawke's Night

I'm sorry if this has been posted already. When we lived in England, I loved celebrating Guy Fawke's Day/Bonfire Night on Nov. 5.

Hello there!

I think this calendar looks great! As I could not see any Spanish contribution, I thought I might help with some ideas :)

6th January- The Three Wise Men (Los 3 Reyes Magos). It is the day Spanish children receive their Christmas presents.
19th March- Father's Day in Spain
23th April- St George's Day. In Catalonia is the Rose and the Book day. Many writers promote their new books on that day.
1st May- National Workers's Day in Spain
24th June- St. John's Day. In Catalonia is celebrated on 23th evening with party and bonfires at the beach.
15th August- Virgin's Day, national holiday in Spain.
11th September- Catalonia's National Day.
12th October- Hispanic Day, national holiday in Spain.
1st November- All Saints Day
6th December- Constitution's Day in Spain.
28th December- Innocents' Day. The Spanish equivalent of April's fools Day.

This is such a wonderful information

I never thought that I could be able to see every country's Independence Day list at one page. You really did such a wonderful job.

January 6 in Italy - la Befana

January 6th the Befana brings gifts to Italian children. The Beffana is an ugly witch with a giant broom made from sticks. Until recently Italians didn't give gifts on the 24th or 25th of December. It was ony the Beffana who did on 6th January.

viva la Befana

Here is a link to give you an idea folklore la Befana vien di notte

Now, I don't live in Scotland, but I recently learned that Burn's Night is on the 25th of January. I dunno if that counts as a national holiday though. I think it does.

Just thought you might be interested. :)

Taiwan's national day: October 10 (Xinhai Uprising)
Vietnam's: September 2 (Japanese surrender of World War II and reading of Declaration of Independence)

In South Africa we celebrate certain specific heritage and national holidays, I see you have one already.

21 March is human rights day, a big day for South Africa considering apartheid and all.
27 April as freedom day, this was a big part of the change in approach to Africans overall.
1 May is workers day, to celebrate all the laborers that constitute the largest workforce of South Africa, about 85% of our working population considering our industry and exports.
16 june is youth day and 9 august is women's day, to specifically celebrate these segments of our population.
24 september is Heritage Day, an important part of our society due to the traditions and culture of our people.
