I'm getting reports from readers that some parts of AuthorScoop are not displaying properly in Internet Explorer. All pages are supposed to be black text on a white background. We're hearing that some of the pages are loading to a black background with grey letters, and even then, it's only in certain geographical locations that this is happening.

If you're around and care to lend your eyes and comments, I would thank you very much!

Bump for "please!"

This is a very weird problem and I'm trying to narrow down any common denominators.

Thank you!

Dunno what you're looking for, exactly, Perks, but FWIW, the text is hardly showing up at all for those pages, and I'm using Vista/IE7.

That's what I'm looking for. It's supposed to be black text on a white background, but on those pages (and a few others) it's showing up grey on black. But only on Internet Explorer and only on certain pages and only in certain geographical locations.

In parts of Texas, it's loading completely fine in all browsers.

Aaaagggghhhh!

Thank you, Madam.

Yep, very light grey on black is what I'm seeing. I'm in Nebraska, if that matters.

You're very welcome. :)

What are you doing in Nebraska?! Get out of there immediately. What are you thinking? You might get a little Midwest on you.

I am not an html wiz, but your span code doesn't look correctly formed to me.

<span style="color: #ffffff;">

Shouldn't that be:

<span style="background-color: #FFFFFF">

?

LOL! I plead familial insanity -- my 'rents and grandparents are here, and my DH loves them. (They're exceptionally cool people -- prolly cuz they're *really* from SoDak and Mississippi, heh) Except for the wind, it ain't actually too bad here. Miss the south, though.

Cranky,

Hmmmm. I'm going to forward that to the powers-that-know-what-it-means. Lol! I don't know all that much about the clockworks behind a webpage.

I'm going to send this to William and his minions. I'm a minion, but of the non-technical variety.

Thanks so much!

I suspect that there's a tag in those posts that isn't closed, or something similarly minor, like an extra space.

I'll try to look at the html later.

What is Author Scoop?

And yes, I get white on black in IE8. (Or is it black on white?... I get it the WRONG way.)

It looks fine in Sierra, Opera, and Google Chrome, though.

Although in Opera, I noted that it comes in as black, then after a moment corrects itself. Not sure if that means anything.

I don't know much html, but you inspired me to look at two posts that seemed to be having particular problems.

The both had weird code, so I just stripped it out et voila! It works!

Thank you!

And yay me! I actually fixed something!

What is Author Scoop?

AuthorScoop is a site for literary news and commentary. There are five basic features every day -

Morning LitLinks (links to current news stories about writing, writers, and/or the publishing industry)
Afternoon Viewing (a daily video clip pertaining to something literary - often an author interview or reading)
Evening Book Reviews (a handful of links to current book reviews)
Quote of the Night (something writerly from some writerly person)

There's also a popular original interview segment '5 Minutes Alone'
and a new feature 'Kill Your Darling... Babies?'
where authors of every sort, experience, and achievement level write original content for AuthorScoop. There's poetry and discussion and commentary, that sort of thing.

The site is owned and run by William Haskins. I'm also a managing editor.

Runaway code-bloat-bits, maybe some of them with slight damage, in some posts, could throw a browser off.

Interesting about the geography of the problem. I wonder if it is real or coincidental?

I couldn't post until I cleared my cranky browser's history - LOL

Oh, you TOTALLY get geek points!

If you know even a little HTML, I'd suggest you log into the profile in WP for the account you post from, and uncheck the option to Use Visual Editor.

It sometimes add odd funky non-standard html. If it's too hard to post, you can always turn it back on.
