Hi everyone.
I've been lurking here for a while and thought it was time to jump in. A little about myself:
I'm a small town guy from north central Wisconsin, USA. Married with two adult children. I'm a Computer Desktop Support Specialist, but that changes in 49 days, when I will be retiring.
I've been writing, off and on, for about 30 years. I'd start on my 'Great American Novel' only to hang it up a few months later, then after a while I'd start another one. Got about 20 of those 'Great Starts' laying around. I also have one semi-finished Fantasy Novel that truly sucks in it's current evolution. So what the heck am I doing here with all these real writers?
Well, a couple of weeks ago I happened to actually finish something. My little darling was a 13,000 word Paranormal Romance, that I think is pretty good...but what do I know. Anyway, it's been my plan that when I retire (49 days!!!) I was going to get serious about my writing. So lately I've been lurking around the internet checking out writing related sites (like this one).
Is this to long for a first post? (If so, sorry)
...anyway, where was I? Oh yeah. I stumble across this New York City Literary Agent that seems to be looking for just my type of story. In a fit of lunacy I send off a query, and she writes me back that she'd like to read my story (oh, but could I expand it to around 20.000 words). No problem, I tell her, words are what I do. So I do an update/edit, add some new scenes, throw together a summary and send it out. That was last week.
Okay, I know, I'm fully expecting a rejection email any day, but in the mean time I can dream.
So that's how I ended up here. I figure if I'm gonna pull off this writing thing I'm going to need all the help I can get. I was really happy to stumble across this wonderful community. I look forward to getting to know you guys, and learn all I can about my new profession/retirement activity.
Steve
