Hi,
Just a quick hello and introduction from me. I'm Sarah, 26, Northern Irish, and I write stuff, blogs mainly. (www.crazycolours.wordpress.com if you're intrested. Disclaimer - it's self indulgent, flippant and I swear a lot.) I have a 5 year old son, who comes out with the friggin BEST one liners; he also has Autism, which I find is a never ending source of amusement, when it's not driving me crackers. I live in Northern Ireland with my son and my boyfriend. I hate the term boyfriend. He is a MAN. A man friend, who also writes, does movie reviews (he's really rather good), monopolizes the television on the weekends to watch football (soccer if you're american), makes me laugh and puts up with my fickle, short attention span ways without complaint.
Where I am with writering: I started writing a book. Probably my third attempt at writing a book over the past few years. But this time, I was serious. *serious face* However, 12k words after starting, I decided it was all a pile of dung, and scrapped it. So I'm starting again. I need to rework the plot, and I need to not be so self conscious about my style of writing. Which has all the subtlety of Pat Butcher - and if you don't know who that is, an ox with blue eye shadow and giant, garish earings will do as a substitute) wearing a size 6 wedding dress in a cake fight. But people tend to think that it's refreshing. I think trying to emulate my favourite authors has done nothing for me, except to tip the scale towards suicide (not really!) out of frustration.
I'm also submitting article ideas to various magazines in the UK and Ireland. I've got a couple of good contacts here, so fingers crossed I can make a bit of money and get my name out there.
I'm joining with this here wee site to get ideas, get to know other writers and, hopefully, others will be going through the same kind of head wrecking self critizism that I do, and we can all cry together. And then pull each other up.
Nice to meet you.
