what's your gender and preferred genre to read? what's your take/bet on the split?

I'm female and like paranormal romance and sci-fi/fantasy but not hard core other world kind. (I like the strange thing happen to regular people or regular people are strange thing kind. "surprise sci-if")

Well, I can't answer because I read much more than a single genre.

So are we talking "genre" genres, or is literary no longer a genre, or is it part of "other"?

I'm okay whichever way. Just curious what you want me to choose. :D

I don't know if I can narrow it down to a single favorite genre. I like to read a little bit of everything.

I'm biologically male and my favorite genre is fantasy. Though historical fiction, scifi, horror and general fiction are nice also. The only genre I can think off that tends to lean more to one gender is romance.

Literary in general, Magical Realism, Paranormal, Satire here :)

I would've voted for Thriller and Horror, too.

I'm a girl.

She's a scary spider.

I cringe every time I see one of her posts, lol...spiders are icky.

As for the question, I read a little bit of everything...but most of the stuff on my bookshelf would probably fall into the paranormal category. I like some light sci-fi too, and a pinch of literary fiction for good measure.

Oh, and I've got two x chromosomes :)

Off in my head.
I read a bit of every thing, romance, fantasy, mystery, non-fiction...
I'm sure there are people out there that only read one genre, but I've yet to meet them.

For many years (maybe a couple of decades) science fiction was about the only fiction I read, though I did enjoy an excerpt of "Firestarter" in Omni Magazine way back when. But since I've read some modern "crime fiction" and a few other things, but I still didn't hesitate to vote male, science fiction.

And now I look at the results. I see three votes for female science fiction, but I'm the only male. I would have sworn it would be lopsided the other way. Or maybe it has something to do with the stuff that's labeled science fiction thesedays.

But of course this is not a scientific poll, bla bla bla...

I'm female and I read all of the above. Really, I read all over the place as far as genre is concerned. Romance probably the least, but I'll sometimes read that, too.

I thought the question was preferred genre, not only genre.

people actually have 1 preferred genre?
They can. You can like lots of things, but prefer one thing more than the others if asked to choose. Or you can like all things equally. Which is entirely okay too, right?

That's why i haven't filled out the part on my profile about favorite muppet character. I have several i like equally. Which is really quite frightening.

My preferred genre is stuff that fits several genres or none. Stuff that denies me the ability to apply preconceptions or which reveal preconceptions I've got. I guess contemporary?
