I've had constant headaches with my query trying to focus on the MC and her conflicts, instead of the bigger picture of the war that surrounds her in WWII Manila. I posted it on the SYW thread, and I hope some of you might offer some insights. Right now, I'm stalled on revising the first sentence--which isn't hooky enough.
