Barney wears a special watch that sprays him with a dust that calms him down. This is very useful because when stressed or mad, he turns into a raging mindless alligator creature.

Does your MC have many friends?

Spindle/Kindle (Can't pick name yet) would rather be by herself than hang out with other people, so no. The only person she becomes close to is the love interest.

What kind of shoes does your MC wear?

Oh heavily, Chepi's folks were both career soldiers and raised her like she was in boot camp. She was out of diapers by 3 months old and was training in magic before she started pre-school.

What is your character's favourite thing to cook?

Cloned Neandertal MC from 2055: he's not into cooking, but not incapable. Probably fried eggs and bacon. He's probably a bit too lazy to cook a full English, but eggs and bacon will do. He'll have a full English if someone else is cooking though.

MC from 40,000 years ago: meat cooked on an open fire. If he's cooking, it's something small that he's caught himself like a rabbit or similar. The big animals that the men catch are cooked on the main fire by the adults then shared out among everyone. But small animals he catches he'll cook and usually have a bit left over to share with his mum or brother.

Does your MC have any secrets that are only known to themselves, not shared with a single other person?

I don't think so. He's extremely close to his family and the few things he doesn't tell them, he tells his friends. He's a 'heart on his sleeves' type of person, so it's very hard for him to keep secrets!

Has your MC ever been to a funeral/lost someone close to them?

Kindle hasn't lost anyone (but she thinks she lost her parents and siblings did due to brainwashing). She does attend a funeral of three people who died on a mission. She didn't know them, not even their names, and feels bad about it.

Is your MC good around heights or not?

Cloned Neandertal MC from 2055: he's not phased by heights. There was the school roof incident in year 8, and if he ever goes up Blackpool Tower, you know that bit of perspex on the top level that they dare you to stand on (you can see all the way down to ground level) - he'd jump up and down on that and wonder what everyone else is worried about.

MC from 40,000 years ago: he's very good at climbing trees and rocks, and also knows his abilities well, so if he doesn't climb up any higher, it's because he knows something won't take his weight. There isn't anywhere that high up for him to climb for the height to bother him. He's more concerned with making sure he's on firm footing. However if some random time traveller from the future decided to take him up in a hot air balloon or similar, he'd probably be terrified. Fascinated, but terrified.

What does your MC know/believe about how their species/world/universe etc came into being?

He's a Hindu, so technically he would believe that the world springs from the body of Brahma. However, he has agnostic tendencies, so despite the strong spiritual component within his personality, he's more of a 'Big Bang' person in this particular respect.

What is your MC's greatest fear?

Yes and no . . . Neva thinks it's an honor to be named for her beloved grandmother, but she also considers the name Geneva to be hopelessly antiquated, hence the nickname.

Does your MC have any random (and possibly pointless) skills they are inordinately proud of?

Cloned Neandertal from 2055 MC: yes, he's learning how to make stone tools of the type made by middle palaeolithic Neandertals. He's learning this mostly via video chat from a man in the USA (and he ordered the flint online). It's not a particularly useful skill to have in 2055* but it's one of the very few links he has to the culture of his own people so he is most definitely inordinately proud of this skill.

*though from personal experience a lower palaeolithic hand axe beats modern tools for opening cardboard packaging and some types of plastic packaging - I'm not able to make middle palaeolithic tools (yet).

MC from 40,000 years ago: he has lots of skills that he's proud of but they're all useful. His skill for stealth is under-appreciated by his people, but he's proud of it because he's half-Neandertal and though he's never met any, he knows from his mum that they hunt through stealth and ambush. He considers that he got this skill from them, though it's more that he practised it a lot. His people do persistence hunting, aided by long range weapons like bow and arrow or spear and atlatl, so they value stamina and accuracy with weapons more than stealth, so they don't appreciate my MC's stealthiness as much as he does.

In the strictest sense, Tanner has what he wants and can get access to what he wants; however, he'd love it if more "old school" things came back into action-The original Nintendo, vinyl records, home phones. He doesn't hate modern technology, just prefers the stuff his parents grew up on.

What is your MC's favorite song written by somebody of the opposite sex?

Neva's a fan of pretty much anything Don Messer* ever wrote: standards like "Crooked Stovepipe" and obscure flights of notes like "Spud Island Breakdown."

* white Canadian fiddler, prolific composer of tunes

If your MC had to be quarantined, would they manage? How would they cope?

Chepi would be ecstatic, she, as a rule, hates people. She wouldn't be too lonely either since she has a sentient spirit companion as a roomie who either lives in her head or her cat, depending on mood. The chance to catch up on her sewing projects would be exciting as heck too, she'd finally get to fix that pair of pants from the last time she was stabbed

Your character's opinion/aptitude regarding math?

Your character's opinion/aptitude regarding math?

Cloned Neandertal from 2055 MC: he's doing maths GCSE (year 11 high school exams) and he's not brilliant at it but not dreadful either, averaging a D grade (in the UK system, D is average and a pass, but C is the grade you need for studying A-levels and going to uni). He's not a big fan of maths and will probably say that it's his joint-worst subject along with English lit, although his maths grade is better than English lit grade so he might say maths is his second worst subject. He's resentful of having to study maths and after one of his end of year 10 maths exams, he commented "I’m the only Neandertal in the entire history of everything that ever had to do simultaneous equations."

Also: I know they recently changed GCSE grades from letters to numbers, but there's a joke in the story that they changed them back again and my MC's parents don't get the letter grades as grades were numbers in their day.

MC from 40,000 years ago: maths doesn't exist yet. Well, actually it does but not as an academic discipline. My MC can do calculus (predicting the trajectory of an arrow) and has intuitive knowledge of maths and physics from interacting with the world, because maths is fundamental to reality. His people have a very simple counting system, i.e. numbers up to around ten or so, and words for things like "lots", "many" etc. They have a system for sharing out food that involves an intuitive understanding of volume. So while he has no concept of "maths" as such, maths underpins reality and he understands reality.

What is your MC's favourite book?

Cat hasn't read any books since the funeral. Right now her life is firmly divided into a before the funeral, and after the funeral. She loved to read BTF, but can't even stomach the thought of picking up any of those books again. AFT, well, does reading the labels on coolers to find out alcohol percentage count as a book?

What weird, niche sport/hobby does your MC participate in? (or wishes they could)

Kindle is great with sowing, stitching, creating puppets and dolls. She has been trained from birth to be great at it since her parents occupation revolves around it. To her it's just a job until she loses her memories. Then she sees it more as a hobby.

What's something/someone your MC can always rely on/in?

Catlin can always rely on Beth. Beth would do almost anything for Cat. They were best friends since practically before they could talk. She was the reason Cat even made it through half their ridiculous AP classes.
They haven't spoken or communicated in anyway for seven months. Cat's not sure if that's her fault for running away, or Beth's fault for not trying to stop her.

What meal/snack/food is your MC favorite to make and why?

Cloned Neandertal from 2055 MC: anything with lots of meat. He's very active and gets hungry often*. He doesn't really have specific favourite foods, he'll eat whatever's around that he can eat. He can't digest lactose** so that rules out a number of foods. He'd probably say that meat is his favourite food but he also eats a lot of fruit. His parents find it hard to keep leftovers in the fridge because he'll eat them. He's not bad at cooking, albeit he'd rather cook a ready meal or heat up leftovers from the previous day than make it from scratch.

*some research suggests that Neandertals need significantly more calories per day than Homo sapiens.

**the ability to digest lactose after the age of 5 or so only evolved in populations with a long history of dairy farming

MC from 40,000 years ago: his all time favourite food would be honey, but that's hard to come by and involves getting the bees out of the way first. He knows how to do this but he'll probably get his mother and/or any of the other women to help him as it involves a team effort and climbing up trees etc to get to the hive in the first place. Someone would have to light a fire with the right kind of wood to make enough smoke to smoke out the hive, then hand a bundle of the burning material (safely) to the person climbing the tree so they can get the smoke into the hive. All without getting stung or burning yourself (or falling out of the tree, for that matter). Once the honey's been acquired, it'll be shared out. Most of the food they eat is cooperatively hunted or gathered, then taken back home and shared with everyone, while they sit around the main fire. Sometimes my MC will catch himself a rabbit or other small animal, but even this is likely to be shared with someone else, e.g. his brother.

Your MC is offered an all expenses paid trip to anywhere that can be travelled to in your story's world. Where do they choose to go to and why?

Baxter would want to go back to McJermy , a human populated island. He lived (and was a famous violinist) there before he was bitten by a vampire and moved around a lot.

Her parents made Cat start playing the piano when she was four. After six grades of it she finally got to stop. If she never touches another instrument again she would be happy.

Cloned Neandertal MC from 2055: he likes the cloned mountain gorillas because they were cloned with the same technology that he was. In his 2055 world, they are extinct however scientists and conservationists are cloning them using mothers of other gorilla species, with a view to creating an entire troop and transitioning it to live in the wild. This is a complex long term project that will take several decades (even just ensuring there's sufficient genetic diversity in the troop of cloned gorillas is a mammoth task, plus teaching them all to live in the wild and slowly transitioning them away from dependence on humans) and the cloned gorillas are still young and living in zoos. The MC finds an affinity with them, but wishes scientists could clone a few more Neandertals so he wouldn't be the only one.

MC from 40,000 years ago: zoos don't exist yet. His favourite animal is the falcon. He loves the way they catch their prey in mid air and he feels that falcons are watching over him. Also, his mother's man is called Falcon and Falcon looks out for him. When he was in danger one time and saw a falcon, he thought Falcon had sent it to protect him.

Cat's twin has been her biggest influence. Which seems a bit cliché and obvious, but its the truth. She used to do everything possible to separate herself from him, and now she's basically ended up living the life he always wanted. It seems a good way to honor his memory.

Barney would never watch a horror movie because he turns into a mindless raging alligator creature when he gets scared. So yeah. Horror movies are out.

Is your MC a morning person or a night owl?
