Dear Fellow Writers:

I need help big time I never followed any guidelines to writing poetry but I'm learning how too now, but I was wondering what is free verse and light verse?

Free verse has irregular rhythmic cadence rather than meter. Rhyme is not a requirement.

Light verse does not mean anything in particular other than poetry that is less serious than other poetry. Examples of poetry that qualify as light verse would be doggerels, clerihews, and limericks.

Hope this helps!

Thanks gogoshire. This helps me out a lot. I have another question to ask, how can you identify free verse from your poems you write? Can you give me an example of a free verse poem and a light verse poem? Or is that a stupid question to ask?
