How do Mods get picked?

It's a beautifully simple process. The user ID is checked. The user is eligible to become a mod if the user is not KTC.

Another question.. Have Mods sometimes gotten their Mod status removed?

I took an eight, nine month break and when I came back at least two people who had been mods were no longer, so the answer is yes, although the reasons why were many and varied. I suspect in those two people's cases, it was voluntary as they don't strike me as the type to do anything worthy of punishment.

Very, very seldom.

Mods do, on occasion, offer compelling reasons I should accept their resignation (often citing lame excuses like "I really need to write this book, since my deadline was last month....) Sometimes, if I'm in a really good mood, I even accept that resignation.

All I remember about the process was the clear gelatin dripping from my forearms, that electricity arcing between the Van De Graff generator and the bolts screwed into my temples, Bread's "I'd Like to Make It With You" playing on a transistor radio, the smell of Jean Naté Body Wash and the taste of bits of aluminum on my tongue.
