Swing me fast through blurring arcs
as surely as your guiding skill
build Notre Dames and Cutty Sarks
that last past history's fleeting thrill

Let all dilemmas show as one
as tiny as the standing nail
let all life's problems soon be done
calm aching heart and baby's wail

Crave in me solutions found
when all problems reduce to sole
find solace in your mighty pound
as driven home round peg to hole

If I had to be a lifeless inanimate object,
devoid of thought,
absent of mind,
unknowing and unknowable,
I'd choose to be you.

Eroded, tumbled and broken to shape
precious veins and roughened scape
to kick or throw
or skim a lake
I'll lead an avalanche to escape
You and roll, my counter parts
make me famous as did Dahl...
But truly you'd remember my face
if you found yourself between me and a hard place.

Okay...not really an object, but what the hell...


A caveat, I'd be,
heavy and looming,
tensile and endless.
I'd be the weight
of portent,
the stifling ballast
that strikes inaction
and fear into those
unable to stretch
forward for fear
of mis-movement.
A cloud, darkly,
above the decisions
being made
through the course
of your darkening days.

brazen, sheer to the sun
I would stand
relentless and profound;
the crags
wisdom's depository,
sentinel in stone
