Errr, I couldn't think of a better title, although that does sum it up. When an agent requests a full manuscript, it seems most literary agencies expect to hold the manuscript for anywhere from a month to three months. I'm not sure of the process, and mostly just curious.

In a medium-to-large agency, with a junior agent, what's the agent's process after reading the manuscript? Does it have to be pitched to someone else in the agency to give an okay on sending the author a contract? Does it have to be read by more than just that one agent? Is this time period for discussion within the agency, or just to cover the fact that the agent may be terribly busy and not able to get around to reading and/or deciding on his/her own?

Thanks!
